Tint Comparisons

As an extension of the discussion about green tinted SST20 5000k lights, I ran up a side by side of a few different types. It’s not a scientific test, as the images were taken with the standard camera app on an iphone and I have no idea what automatic exposure compensation or white balance was used for each. Light spillage in a white room started to pick up as the lights got brighter, so I’m not sure if the last two frames are really useful. I’m also a little confused by the beams of the EC01 and S21a. I’d have expected the spill to be more tinted, not the other way around.

Except for the Convoy, they all run Anduril and are set to stepped ramping. They start on level 1 and go up step by step. It’s not a Max Lumen test, so I didn’t worry about getting to max/turbo. There are a few steps where the Convoy doesn’t match up, so I have it turned off.

From left to right:

- Astrolux EC01 XHP50.2 (3V) 6000k-6500k

- Lumentop FW3A XPL-HI 5000k

- Lumentop EDC18 Nichia

- Lumentop FW3A SST20 4000k

- Astrolux MF01 Mini 4000k

- Astrolux MF01 Mini 5000k

  • Convoy S12a SST40 6500k

They’re not as clean as the shots I in the Green LED thread but I hope they’re still useful.

Mini 5k, Mini 4k, FW3a SST 4k
All three lights are in stepped ramping, one step up from minimum.

Thank you! This is great!

Thank you  Now I know: XP-L HI 5000K is great, and I prefer SST20 than Nichia, because SST20 is less pinky
And MF01 Mini 5000K is…well

Someone in another conversation pointed out that his SST 4000k Emmisar was a bit green too, and that Lumentop had scored a really nice tint for their FW3 SST 4000k we

Does anyone know if the EDC18 Sst20 emitters are the same bin as the ones in the Fw3a? I hear the tint on that one is beautiful and not green, so I’m hoping Lumintop used the same batch for the Edc18.

this is really helpful thanks!!. quick question, any reason why the sst20 4k on the fireflies pl47 gen 2, wouldn’t look like the one shown here?

I can’t claim you’ll get the same as I did, but my EDC18 SST and Illumn sourced FW3a SST seem to be the same.

Awesome. I’m hoping it’ll be the same.

Also, I ordered through Banggood. Would that make a difference?

I honestly don’t know.

Lumintop have a good batch of SST20 in the FA3; word is that Astrolux have a few too, but that may not be true. Maybe FD2?

Either way - very hard to get a good tint in them. Wish I could order a whole bunch direct from Lumintop

I guess I’ll keep my fingers crossed and hope I don’t regret not getting the popular XP-L version, lol. Thanks!

My FW3A was from illumn and edc18 was from banggoods, both SST20 4000k, can’t tell the difference.

That’s good to hear! Would you say the lower output is a good tradeoff for the high CRI?

A few months back someone said Mateminco had 1000 of the FA3 tint but were not going to use them in the MF01S. Maybe they used them in Mini? i have the MF01S and the tint is ok but a bit yellow and sometimes can look slightly green. Looks a tiny better at higher levels.
