I’d say with the included 21700, it could be “minutes” rather than “seconds” but I don’t know how long. It would be up to the driver. In a perfect world, the 5100mAh cell should be able to sustain that level for over half an hour. But we don’t live in a perfect world.
I think the 1 minute stepdown on turbo is implemented to prevent serious overheating of the flashlight. I’m sure the cell could supply the required current for longer.
Whether it’s a winner or not will depend on the actual selling price, IMO. Right now it’s listed for more than three times the price of Emisar D4 which delivers similar performance.
This is really something I’m looking forward to. I hope they have the beautiful XP-L HI 5D tint from the Emisars. A stainless steel version would be nice too at that price. I just don’t see how it can maintain 1-minute before stepdown when the D4 begins rapidly dropping in lumens the instant you turn it on. The size is probably not much larger than the D4. If it can really maintain 1-minute at those lumens before stepdown, it will be like a practical version of the D4. Truly amazing.
But let’s see how the UI is. The Emisar ramping UI is perfect.
If it’s close to as good as advertised, it’ll make a good belt light. Emisar D4 is a pocket rocket not a tool. This light might even be a touch too light. Waterproofing is right next to reliability and output on my short list of needed features. I hope for good threads, orings and sealed electronics.
