TIR Stent Colour

Looking to get some more Yajiamei TIRs and was wondering if the stent colour has any noticeable affect on the beam?

In all my lights with TIR I never used the gasket, because of the space in the head.
I would say that the white plastic holder would probably provoke more reflection while the black would not, but this is just in theory.
I really don’t use them :zipper_mouth_face:

I have no idea, I know the glow discs don’t at least I haven’t noticed it and I have 4 in different lights.
I don’t know if they are the same brand, but Kaidomain does them and they look the same ( I got a few here) I just noticed the shipping on Ali is steep for such a tiny thing, then the Paypal fee of 80p if you pay that way.

Is more reflection good or bad?

Yes it is pretty pricey. If you ask them they will adjust the postage cost based on shipping weight. Might be worth mentioning you’re from BLF as well. Still relatively expensive though.

In this case, I’d say that it is bad, as it can create some artifacts
Later I will try to use one of the white holders and check if the “theory” is confirmed or not and I will tell you here :+1:

Obrigado!

Sadly, none of the lights I had them in used the shroud - in general I found they don’t fit using them, at least without modifications.

Hi hodor!
Well, I wasn’t able to post here before, although I experimented the with/without plastic holder before.

This is the Sofirn SF10, one of the few AA lights I have that can take the TIR + the holder (white), as it is quite large in the head.

So, after seeing it with/without the holder, their is not much difference after all.

But that it is because this a pebbled TIR, not a narrow or clear TIR! I believe that a different one would behave “differently” !

Here are some photos (click for bigger photos):

WITH HOLDER >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> WITHOUT HOLDER

The only different thing I noticed was in the third photo. At naked eye I actually didn’t notice anything different!

Thanks for the testing! If it does slightly affect the reflectivity there’s not a big enough difference to bother me.

I have a few TIR optics but haven’t managed to play around with them properly. I quickly tested a few when I got them, saw a starburst effect and immediately swapped them out. Not sure what the cause is but was going to search / make a thread about it.

I’m planning on getting a TIR for my FW1A as the OP reflector is atrocious. I wasn’t able to find the exact size optic but with a stent it will be a better fit but I need to look into this further when I get a chance.
