Here’s my “Torch Hunting Guide” I created for my New Zealand customers. This should be a massive help to hunters that want an idea on safe animal detection range. This is mostly Convoy models, and the Cyansky H5GT. There’s the L21B Epiled Red being a custom model with the LED purchased on Kaidomain.
There’s a gallery at the bottom to compare the beam sizes at 100m.
Note: Ignore my pricing, it’s all in NZD, not USD. My pricing in NZ is considered a good deal.
Just note that the L21A/B 9mm reflector limits the range to 1,220m regardless of which emitter is used. Buy a host with the 13mm reflector hole and assemble yourself. Simon is shipping it out with the 9mm and refuses to use the 13mm. You could also add a 13mm reflector to your order and swap it in..
Does different bottom hole diameter mean that the same reflector/paraboloid was cut at different height? So larger hole allows the led to be placed a little higher?
There’s just different diameter holes for the various emitter sizes. For some odd reason the factory can’t produce a 9mm hole reflector without convergence issues. Simon now has a new 9mm batch that performs slightly worse than the batch before it lol. Best to just avoid it and grab a host or add the 13mm to the order. The only downside is not having a gasket to match the emitter.
Most people won’t care when 1,220m is still plenty for the price.
Edit: Now I understand what you mean, but no idea what’s going on when Simon has had no issues with reflectors in the past.
I figured that if it’s close to 15-16 mm (assuming the reflector inside rim diameter is indeed 58 mm and the inside depth is 50.2 mm) the focus is at that depth. If it’s larger, the focus is lower.
If the rim diameter and depth are the same for all reflectors (even if different from what I assumed above), the actual hole diameter should not matter because there is a ‘shelf’ around the hole, so the reflector should work about the same as long as the LED is in the same place relative to focus.
