Torn between TrustFire TR-3T6 or Sky Ray King

Newbie here and already read some threads but I am still torn between these two :

Trusfire TR-3T6
SRK

Basically I need a powerful and reliable flashlight in the car like for emergency/general use and also to wow some friends.
Already have a KD C8, WF 502b and a keygos Z16 zoomie and some other scoobidoo torches. Weird thing I have a need for a more powerful flashlight, weird weird. So which one do you advise? Thanks.

I just received both a TF 3T6 and a gold SkyRay King (neither from FastTech and models vary greatly). My King (which is driven hard) is much much better than my TF 3T6 (which is under-driven badly). If I had to do it all over again I would have just got the King. The King is much safer as well with batteries in parallel.

My King always puts a smile on my face when I turn it on!

I'm not a fan of storing lithium batteries in the vehicle because of severe temperature changes.

They are both great lights. These two lights are both in my top 5 lights everyone should own.

I would go with the King though because it has a side-switch and I love the pop can design. It is also very bright.

The only things that the TR-3T6 have over the King is durability and cost. I have no problem running my TR-3T6 on high for over an hour. For the King you have to be careful after about 15 minutes with heat.

Ok I won’t be keeping the light in the car, just bringing it with me when I drive during the night.
With the SRK i need to be careful after 15 min because of overheating?

One thing that I don’t understand is how the SRK don’t have a medium mode. Only high, low and disco. I would happily swap the disco with a medium mode. So those who own both, you would say that the King is brighter thatn the Trustfire.

I have both, and absolutely love both. Any of the two will serve you well.

In the end the most important thing really comes to term how you like it in ergonomics - what are you more comfortable holding - short & fat? or long & thin?

If no preference on that, go with King. Much easier and safer. And yes it will withstand High mode all the way until the batteries drained out, you just might not want to hold it during that time :).

I'd say go with the King as well. Keep in mind, the 'low' on this light is closer to what I'd call a "Medium" and is still usably bright.

Hi tsetse,

I only tested my cousin’s SRK 3 times but owned a pair of 3T6 workhorse.

I cannot advice because i do not know how will you use em, like how you prefer the “buttons” are placed? Grip wise? (i prefer the smaller size to hold, like a badminton racket)
If its only for brightness, i believe SRK is the light you need. SRK do also seems to have a slightly wider flood or my eyes is wrong.

However, i share with you how my pair of 3T6 are being used.

Previously, i have to “camp” at places where no electricity, during night; Before i have car batt at that place, i just have 3x 18650 in it, switched it on @ med or high & tied it on tree & leave it as flood light; till battery flat, change them & collect them in the morning, in rain or not.
After the car battery came in, i wired car batts into 3T6 , set to high to be used as flood light & leave it till sun comes out then i off it. (start 7pm to 6am end, thrice every week for about 2 months straight). It have also drop from height of 2 - 3 meters a few times. Till date, its still running strong.

My preference is 3T6 althought it is not as bright as SRK simply because its length can be used as a defensive weapon to block attacks.

(Not to say SRK cannot do it, it also does comes with o-rings to keep water out so leaving it in the rain should also be ok; but others that have SRK might not use the way i use my 3T6).

Hope my impression helps.

It only has two standard modes and 1 hidden mode because the type of UI is has. You have to cycle through hi and low before you can turn the light off. To add another mode to that would be annoying in my opinion. I have had lights where you have to cycle through multiple modes for the light to turn off. It is awful. That is why only having two standard modes is fine with me. I use it on High 90% of the time anyways. The reason I grab for the king is because I want a bright light. If I intended to use the low mode I would just grab a P60 host.

That is awesome, the TR-3T6 is such a durable light.

Thanks everyone. But basically I should own both

Hey cop, I already have an empty 5D Maglite as defensive weapon on my car :stuck_out_tongue: .

JOE what are the other 3 lights that everyone should own?

As -JOE- stated, the disco strobe mode is hidden. You have to press & hold the button to switch into strobe (a rather nice UI). The toggling from high to low to off doesn't bother me at all.

Only 2 main modes in the SRK but the Low is a perfect compromise between medium and the usual low. I thought it would bother me with only two modes but I forgot all about that once I used it. ;)

I have both the SRK and the TR-3T6 and while both are great lights, the SRK is hands down my pick if I had to choose between the two. Pocketable for easy carry, more comfortable to hold (too skinny on the 3T6), and brighter. While the SRK does get hot, folks have left them on high face down on a coffee table with no moving air until the cells drained dry and no issues at all. It's a solid light.

If you are looking for a light to carry in the car that will double as a mace then go with the 3T6. Other than that go with the SRK and don't look back. ;)

Try tailstanding on 3T6. One knock and it’s gone.

SRK can tailstand very well, and is more compact to pack into a bag.

I have both too, and I like my SRK more.

Currently for me (lights under $65) my list is:
- SkyRay King (from fancyflashlights)
- TrustFire TR-3T6 (from DX or Fasttech)
- FandyFire STL-V6 (from DX or Fasttech)
- SolarForce L??? w/ intl-outdoor NW drop-in and OP Reflector
- Sipik SK68 (from TOMTOP on eBay)

Very true but you'll have a hard time finding anything that tailstands "decent" with 2x18650 stacked. The TR-J1# series isn't bad but they're still not ideal.

The King tail stands like a champ. I can't image anything short of an earthquake knocking it over.

+1... The King is great for power outages because it will run cool for hours on low tailstanding pointed at the ceiling. My UniqueFire S7/TR-J18 clone does tailstand but is extremely top heavy limiting it's utility.

You must be using it in a 3x18650 or 3x26650 configuration?

Why would you get your Skyray King from FancyFlashlights? I looked at their website and they do not even offer the gold one (which I thought I read was the brighter one), and the black one they sell is stated to be a Clone.

For the longest time they were the only ones that constantly had authentic Kings. Now it looks like that are very limited.

Here is the gold one. http://www.fancyflashlights.com/goods.php?id=6

I'm not sure where you heard the gold one is brighter. They are both offered in T6, T6 NW, and U2.

How hard did you look? :stuck_out_tongue:
SRK Gold
Edit: Black is on the sister site, CNQG

My bad.
I clicked the SRK category in list on the left hand side, but did not notice it produced a second page of results.

This light is driving me crazy. I really want to order one, but I do not know which vendor to use.

Why do some list 2000 lumens, and some say 2500?

Does anyone know why FastTech has two versions that look the same, one is $50.96 and the other is $37.90.
