TR-J12 Beast Driver

Hi again, I’m looking to be purchasing a TR-J12 with the intention of modding it.

I have been hearing there has been some issues lately with these drivers.

I want to put in the 5 mode beast driver but am trying to figure out if I should go with the 5x or 7x versions.

For some reason I have the idea that maybe the voltage from them isn’t enough. I think I do remember reading a post from a while back that they had good luck putting the 9x in the tr-j18.

Would the extra voltage kill the xml emitters? I am probably gonna throw in some dedomed xml2’s eventually, I know xml2 has a higher voltage requirement so maybe then it would be safer?

Sorry if I’m asking things that have been covered before. I really have tried my best finding these answers.

the 5x version had horrible pwm on 3 of the 5 modes, but high and the second highest mode worked well with around 4000 lumens otf

PWM isn’t usually much of an issue for me but thanks for the warning!

The 7* and 9* beast drivers are junk and you will be lucky if they last 20 minutes. The mode switching is so slow, you think the light turned itself off.
That said, I’ve been having good luck with the 5* beast driver. I haven’t had one die “yet”. The mode changing is instant. With three cells in a TR-J12, you should get about 4.2A per emitter on high.

hmm… what a coincident, I happened to have TR-J12 with beast driver for sale or trade

I am interested, should we go to PM?
