Tracking numbers... ending with HK = item in Hong Kong? SG = item in Singapore?

I have been wondering.

RR123456789CN = item in China?
RR123456789HK = item in Hong Kong?
RR123456789KR = item in Korea?
RR123456789SG = item in Singapore?

I just had an order from a website which normally sends package to me with tracking numbers ending with HK, which I presume is sent from somewhere within Hong Kong.

Today the tracking number changes to SG at the back, and I’m wondering if that item is sent from Singapore?

Can an item be sent from Hong Kong, and yet have SG at the end of the tracking number?

I've often wondered how it can make sense for the HK guys to ship stuff via Singapore Post - last time I looked at a map, Singapore is just shy of 1600 miles from HK.

And I doubt you can send stuff via Singapore Post from HK/China. But maybe you can. Anyone know any more about this?

I've not checked recently but HK Post had chronic problems last year with shortages of cargo aircraft which may be why some of the dealers are using Singapore/China/Wherever Post instead.

Singpost have ther offices in Hong Kong. Its noth allowed to shipp li-ion batteries via HK post anymore, so many vendors shipp ther packages via Singpost

A taobao agent gives the following options for shipping from china:

China Post Airmail
HongKong Post Airmail
China Post Airparcel
EMS
DHL
UPS
Fedex IE
HongKong Post (NO tracking #)
Surface Mail (NO tracking #)
Singapore Post Airmail

I thought that was an international treaty (The International Postal Union) thing - I know that recently the Royal Mail started asking me if there were batteries in things I was posting. They've never done this before.

If they have offices in HK, that explains it though I'm surprised the HK Govt. allows that - postal services tend to be monopolies.

I belive its a legacy of English Government and Hong Kong trading past

A few months ago I bought things from a dealer of Aliexpress. The products were send with Swedish Post, but they came from HongKong. I get a tracking number of Swedish Post (ending SE).

You can see here the codes for 131 countries and areas:

I thought that was common knowledge. :open_mouth:
