Trustfire T2 XM-L mod

I recently bought a Trustfire T2 because of the side switch. Of course I wanted to mod it to XM-L and Nanjg105C… should have been a simple mod - however it turned out to be not that easy.

Main problem is the driver size: The double-sided NANJG105C just doesn’t fit, too thick. I had to use a single sided NANJG101 (1.4A) instead and piggyback a second layer of AMC7135 to get 2.8A… Doh. Had I known that before, I’d not have bought it. Further the hole in the reflector was too small for the XM-L and had to be bored up. Also had to use a smaller o-ring at the front glass to compensate for the thicker XM-L board.

The result is nice however: 2.86 A, 800 lm, 5.7 kcd, 150m (NEMA-)throw (about the same throw as stock version).

Neutral white (T6 3C) and with my custom driver firmware of course

It’s quite a bit bigger than other compact 18650 lights, but has better heat sinking and more throw (21mm eff. reflector diameter).

Nice, I do like the t2, but am on a flashlight sabbatical (according to she that must be obeyed), I was wondering about 6 amc’s and an xp-g2? 8)

I just got this today from FastTech, for under $16 with the 10% off -- wow! This thing can throw and put out light. More light, more throw than my I-O EDC 18650 U2 @2.8A. The amps is reading 2.1A, which is nice. I gotta get a sweeter driver though, and a XP-G2 in it eventually, but for now, this thing is nice. Never expected this much from a XP-G R5 - the quality of the reflector has got to make a hugh difference, combined with decent amps. Dunno much about XP-G family emitters. Looks like the driver choices are limited, unless I change the emitter to XML as Dr Jones did.

I just fitted an ak-47 driver with 5*7135 (my example was driven at 1.8a) and a nw xp-g (3c I think) its now 3 mode nw, and a nice cream tint too. Mine gets hot tailstanding on high though so I wouldn’t be keen on much more current.

I was originally hoping to do a 3up nichia 219 with 12*7135……

That's a nice setup, Gords. Ok, so I can use standard 7135 drivers, just be sure the amps is somewhat limited, maybe 1.5A. Can't test it right now but pretty sure I was getting 2.1A with a fresh Pana unprotected - I should do a short run test to check the heat though.

Thanks! Think I'll get rid of my EDC 18650 I-O light -- this one is bigger/heavier but so more versatile, better lookin, and easy with the side button. It does need a better spread of Lo/Med/Hi though.

I’m happy at the 1.74a (5* 350mah 7135’s) like I say I used it tailstanding in the bathroom the other night, tests later showed the 1.8a draw, this on an unprotected Samsung.

I agree about the stock mode spacing, my first impression was it may as well be a one mode light.

It’s much nicer with the 5% - 30% - 100%. And I like the tint too, just checked, it was an xp-g 4c for reference. I also fitted a bayou claw, I’m liking these on my edc’s as I use a lanyard to my trousers.

Ran mine for 8 minutes on hi, did get warm but not too bad. Maybe 1.8-2.1A is ideal.

** Match's tests show 2.0-2.1A peak on XP-G R5, 2.4-2.5A peak for XP-G2, so I'll probably use those numbers.

I’m waiting on an xp-g2 and c8 upgrade host to come in, that’ll definitely be getting 2.5a, on an edc, I’m fairly happy where I am, I had to press the driver in and solder so I’m not feeling like trying to extract it to add another chip, I don’t think I’d notice the difference by eye.

It’s a throwy little bugger though, hitting the same houses as my uf-v3 from our light polluted back door!
