trying to give back to this forum...

I am extremely interested in going to the Photon Fest. Also, while I wouldn’t be able to camp out at the other events, I might be able to stop out one of the nights you guys are demoing lights. From reading threads over at the other forum, I believe ma_sha came out with a few of his custom lights? It would be worth coming out just to see those in person

Please keep us posted! If it’s possible, I would like to give you my email if you do any kind of email distribution list for the events. It’s much easier for me to keep track if I’m getting emails about the events rather then trying to keep checking up on a thread (or having to dig through posts).

If you could find a way to get rickr or ILIKEFLASHLIGHTS to come out to the Photon Fest, that would make for one heck of an entertaining evening. I can’t even imagine all the lights those guys would bring (and the legendary beef jerky)!

There are quite a few people on here that I’d really like to meet in person but I’m not sure how far people are willing to drive/fly (old-lumens, ChicagoX, Fishin-Fool).

I have a few larger HIDs I’d like to compare to some of the more expensive LED lights as well. These events really sound like a ton of fun and I hope to get out to a few of them in 2013.

OK here is some info on my FCW events: Flashaholic Camping Weekend

As with the PF info above, here is a direct link to the thread I started over on CPF:

This happens to be 9 pages long too suggestion: Read my intro (first post), to get an idea of what the FCW is about, and then move to pages 8 thru 9 for the pictures. On page 9 you will find a picture of a bunch of giveaway lights (sitting on one of the picnic tables at the campground) from the following companies:

Battery Junction (in conjunction with SureFire, Inova & TerraLUX)
Battery Station
Bright Guy

Flashlights Unlimited
Light Hound
Princeton Tec
Streamlight
Tek-Tite
TigerLight

I reached out to people I know at all of the companies above, and every one of these companies was happy to provide multiple flashlights as give-aways for FCW-2!

It was quite an undertaking to do all of that, and since FCW-2 I have never involved as many companies in the give-aways, but I still have some flashlights or batteries etc, as a give-away or “for review” or at least for a “look and see - pass around” at every FCW. At the last FCW Dorcy provided all of us with free DieHard batteries to keep our flaslights fully powered all weekend long - and they also provided us with about a dozen lights to “test” all weekend long, and at the end of the weekend they became “door prizes” for us to keep. And they even sent some of their pre-production lights for us to get a first look at.

I’ll post more info on these events as the next ones draw closer - but in the meantime feel free to ask any questions about them. —KartRacer31

Make sure you post lots of pictures in the reviews… i cants reads too good

Thanks again rikr - and I hope you can make it to a PF or FCW - we have had people attend from as far away as the West Coast several times, and one time someone came from the Philippines (ok so he was out in NY on vacation so that may not totally count, LOL) Oh and FYI we always give a “special” give-away for the person who traveled the furthest! —KartRacer31

Hi Rezolution - you are correct we always have a great group of guys at the events, and often they bring / or send if they can’t actually attend, really cool lights for us to “test”. I hope you and the other guys you mentioned above can make it to an upcoming event or two. I see you are in PA - PA is a pretty big state, but at least it is right next to NJ! And I have held the FCW at Hickory Run State Park in PA a few times. —KartRacer31

LOL, ok I will. But right now I’m just using my crappy camera phone (iPhone3s) for the photos, and they are usually pretty weak! Maybe Mrs Claus is going to get me a camera for Christmas. I would really like to start doing some video reviews! —KartRacer31

LOL………I must have said “yes” 10 times while reading your post!! Well done.

The LOLC ( Lumen Obsecessed Light Club) has been started here in NE IL with a few local friends and neighbors. The group has bought 30+ lights in the last 60 days, many as Christmas gifts. Glad to see the Lithium battery ban by the USPS lifted.

Love the camp-out idea for Lumen-ologists!!
Maybe we need regional chapters…NJ is just too far.

Nice to hear about the Dorcy-Sandy assistance.

Yes, the CPF is a bit different, but not too much. We are all family, and as we all know, you don’t always get along with family….

Cheers all

I agree wholeheartedly. Perhaps a Midwest Regional Meet is in order.

We appreciate your contributions here, KartRacer31 - please keep it up !

Thanks dno36! Very cool about your LOLC. Feel free to reach out to me on any info I can help you with on starting your local camping weekend or get together. I would be happy to put you (or anyone else doing such an event to get Flashaholics together), in touch with my contacts for door prizes/ review lights/ pass arounds etc.

Your “family” analogy is a good one! —KartRacer31

Thanks Chicago X - I’ll be getting a quick review of the Coast HP550 (1,000 lumen) and the Defiant 3xC cell 550lumen Home Depot lights I bought recently up on BLF later today

dno36 & everyone else who I didn’t directly respond to about this - thanks for mentioning it  - several BLF members have also acknowledged Dorcy stepping up for Hurricane Sandy - which was fantastic - but not unpresedented. Here is another tragic event they stepped up for:

http://www.pressbox.co.uk/detailed/Business/Dorcy_helps_Tornado_Victims_689701.html

I just googled it and this was the first link that came up, but it can be found on several sources on the web.

I feel kinda bad because the sent me hundreds of lights to give out, (some other Flashaholics actually helped me distribute some), and although I gave them all away, I didn’t get any national news coverage while I did so.

Most of the distribution happened during the night as my wife and I walked from neighbor to neighbor handing them out, door to door. Dorcy did give me small abreviated folded paper catalogs to hand out with 20% off and free shipping coupons printed on them. And of course the contact info for anyone who needed to order more lights during Hurricane Sandy. Dorcy told me that more than 100 people contacted them by email to thank them for the free lights!

Thanks to Dorcy I was able to supply every member of the Auxillary Police Department I volunteer with in New Jersey a flashlight - and I know our secretary sent a letter thanking Dorcy. Believe it or not the inexpensive small and lightweight Dorcy 9-led lights that I gave the Aux. Police members are going to be part of everyone’s gear bag from now on. We are all issued rechargeable Streamlights, but during Sandy our shifts lasted 2-3 times as long as normal, and our Streamlights ran out of power. We have the ability to recharge them in the police cars, but while they were charging we needed another light source.

FYI - I know if Dorcy noticed your address was in the Hurricane Sandy zone - Dorcy was upgrading the already free shipping to free overnight shipping from Ohio where they are located, just so you could have your lights sooner. - pretty cool way for a company to act.

That was very nice of Dorcy to give out lights to all those in need. There were quite a few companies that really stepped up to help via direct product donations or monetary donations. I don’t think things like this (donations) ever get the press that they deserve. Here are just a few examples from the HUNDREDS of companies that donated…

Wow! there are some awesome donations listed there! It is good to see companies, or even people, who “have” weather it be money or even just time - helping out those in need! As they say… good Karma is good!

That would be awesome!! We need a Mid-west BLF gathering!!!

That is some awesome donations, thanks for posting Kartracer, and I look forward to your reviews and contributions here as I have on cpf. Ive been a flashaholic for 14 years but only learned of flashlight forums a little over a year ago. Glad I’m not alone in my love of light, and I too still have a weakness for the Joe homeowner lights. I was recently at Rona and found a 1D flashlight and although it was just a single SMD led in there and 10-12 lumens, I picked one up lol. Dorcy, Garrity, Energizer was the bulk of my collection before I stumbled on cpf, I’ve since donated 50 of my old lights to a church building an orphanage in Kenya.

Im glad I’m not the only flashaholic out there, and I really love it here at BLF

Hi CarpentryHero - wow that is really cool that you donated a bunch of your lights to the orphanage! Good Karma for sure

That 1-D flashlight you mention, I bought a two pack like that made by Energizer. I really like that they run on just one D battery. During Hurricane Sandy I had them running down all of my weak D batteries. They did a good job of sucking all the life out of my old D cells.

You mention being a Flashaholic for 14 years… unless you are only 14 years old you might be wrong… studies on the forums have shown that we are all born this way! LOL  —KartRacer31

In that case I’ve been a flashaholic 35 years lol. I didn’t start buying multiple flashlights (and multitools) until after I quit smoking. That’s when I got more than ten lights, and started carrying a flashlight instead of a lighter

I love the 1d, it’s my new battery vampire

Please ....make them stop quoting the quotes of the quotes ...of the quotes

What quotes??
