TS11 emitter swap

Hello everybody, long time lurker first time posting. I have been into flashlights since about 1975. I own approximately 100 flashlights at the moment all various qualities and brands. I own several Maglights and was very loyal to that brand for many years. Flashlights have come a long way in the last decade it’s incredible. I have recently purchased a bunch of Wurrkos and Sofirn lights, what I consider to be pretty good performance for the price. The Q8 plus is a crowd pleaser, it always blows people away when I turn that light on in the park behind my house. The light I use the most currently is the wurrkos hd20, absolutely love this thing. Battery life is exceptional, I was worried about the size and weight of the headlight before I purchased it but that has not been an issue I find it extremely comfortable with the headband provided.

I have recently purchased a couple of Wurrkos TS11 throwers. Incredible that you can get this amount of light out of such a small footprint. I am looking to swap the emitter in one of them to something warmer. Lumen output is not a concern. I have never attempted this and don’t have the correct soldering or hot plate equipment. I don’t know if it’s worth swapping for such a low priced flashlight.

I am in the Montreal area and don’t know if there’s anyone that could possibly help me out with that.

I have spent many hours happily browsing on this website, the flashlight reviews are just incredible. Thank you to everyone who contributes on here it’s immensely entertaining for a flashlight enthusiast.

It’s nice to see you, SRV4EVER!

Welcome! There are a few modders who do contact work like that. I think the inherent challenge is paying for someone’s time and shipping often doesn’t make sense for low priced lights.

Perhaps ask yourself if you have other lights you’d like modded, and consider whether you might enjoy doing that yourself. Emitter swaps aren’t too difficult on the majority of lights. The tools aren’t very expensive and we’d all be glad to give you assistance.

I have a TS11 but haven’t swapped emitters yet. On that one you’d want to keep the stock MCPCB due to MCPCB having the aux leds and holes for the TIR legs (IIRC). So you’d be looking for a 5050 footprint LED - something like a SFT40 3000K could be a good, warmer choice.

Thank you for the replies, yeah I was worried about the aux lights on the board and adding heat. I have hands like Seinfeld’s lobster eating girlfriend so the delicate work is normally best left to the professionals. The soldering equipment I can source locally, do you know a good place to order the SFT40 ?

It has been many years since I was on an internet forum so please excuse me if I make any mistakes posting in the wrong location or asking questions that I shouldn’t ask.

Just noticed my original post has maglite spelled incorrectly. Maglite was my first love, I have an old 6D cell billy club that still gets some laughs when I pull it out. I did some led swaps in these old girls when the LEDs conversions first came out but they are pretty pathetic for what I paid for the bulbs.

The TS11 isn’t what I’d call a beginner light for modding but it’s doable. The additional wires for the aux make it trickier. An iron with a fine tip helps.

Convoy is one of the first places I check for parts. The selection and prices are good, and
shipping is no slower than anywhere else from China. The owner is really active in the community so I like to support him.

Okay now I’m on the convoy site, trying to decide what other flashlights I need to add to my collection. In order to get the free shipping on the SFT40 I need to order something else, at least that is what I’m going to tell the much better half

That S6 and L21B look pretty sweet

Any other suggestions/must have’s for Convoy?

I am looking for something to add to my EDC kit but I will consider anything that you guys recommend

2 Thanks

Oh man, your first experience with Convoy? So many options. It really depends on what you need/want. The T series are thinnest (aa/14500) since you mentioned EDC. S6 are 18350/650 so a bit larger diameter.
