This host was pretty roached, but it has sentimental value to Paleoellis
Here is a short video of the build: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/0x4qmvxiG4A
The biggest problem with these Zoomies is the “Heat Sink” They are hollow in the middle where you need heat sinking the most.
To solve this I filled it with a 3/4" aluminum rod, by getting the “heat sink” hot enough to expand, and then placing over the top of the cold rod. It made a tight fit.
Drilled/milled holes for wire and set screws.
Cree XPLR has a round die so I think its perfect for an aspherical flashlight
I replaced the missing switch parts, and added a silver plated copper spring
To repair the finish I sprayed it with Duracoat, and baked it. DC is not good for bare aluminum, but it will hold on the harder anodizing pretty well.
I used a mosfet driver so the LED is seeing about 6 amps at peak being driven off one 18650. With the head off, the LED delivers 1800ish lumens.
Paleoellis Sent me this beautiful hand made knife! I really love it, this is the first knapped knife I have ever had.
