Ultimate Throwers

What would be your thrower of choice if price was not an issue? SR95S? TM36? TK61vn?

I am very tempted to buy the TK61vn with 600k lux

Probably a handheld shortarc.

Happy with my Thrunite TN 32, Fenix TK60 and RMM boosted Small Sun ZY-T08 throwers. How often do you truly NEED to illuminate something 1/4 mile or more away? At the other extreme I have the FourSevens Atom AL and ALR2 which are all flood mini lights with a beam angle of over 115 degrees width and no visible hot spot at all. Definitely short range key chain or necklace lights for close illumination with minimum glare. Both types serve their purposes but to me the mini flood lights are useful more often.

That’s the thing… I keep buying all these mid-priced lights and the cost is adding up such that I think it would be better for me to just buy fewer more expensive lights.

Not sure that I would classify the TN32 as a cheaper light. Currently about the ultimate regular production thrower as I do not consider any modified light to be a “production” light. Certainly the RMM modified lights are not that expensive but to me they represent a new standard in price/performance ratio which my Scottish ancestry appreciates.

Do you actually have a USE for an ultimate thrower or is it just an itch that requires relief? :quest:

I just have an itch that was not at all satisfied by the SR52.

TM36 is just too large and overpriced as a mod host IMO. Same with SR95S. Those are way too large, and expensive compared to the small gain you can get compared to the other options.

TK61 and Supbeam K50 are more "reasonably sized" and priced, but with the ability to have insane throw. For me, once a light becomes too large, or heavy, its not getting used. Ive set my size to around TK61 level. That is actually pushing it a bit. Those lights offer great performance considering their weight, size, quality and price.

TN32 is nice. Size is right. But price and reflector size is not as attractive as TK61 for the "ultimate thrower build".

Many of us just got a bargain on Supbeam K50. Another contender depending on how mod friendly it is.

If you want the ultimate, get one of the ultimate lights modded. De-dome is a must, and so is usually a current increase if you want to really step up and cure the itch.

For me, the ultimate will probably be TK61 or K50. Ill have to see how they perform once modded to the "final stage" and see how I like them to decide on the "winner".

Its hard to go wrong with any of the lights above. Its more a question about preference.

Now that I think about it, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone pushing 5A to a de-domed XP-G2 in a TK61…

A combined RGB —> white laser.

Pretty much useless though for any practical purposes though.

I'd have to say the TK61vn

I only use throwers for hunting - if it’s too big to be rifle mounted and doesn’t fit a 25 or 30mm scope ring it’s no use to me.

So what you’re saying is a TM36 is just barely too big?

No aspheric/wavien collar love? );

+1 with RacerR86. The TK61vn V2 ala RMM driver could be the new champ, but the K50 might be close fully modded, or might beat it - all depends on final amps and focus tuning. Personally, I prefer the UI and heat sinking of the K50, so my choice would be a fully modded K50, at least this is what I'm anticipating. Can't wait to get mine... Smile

I got a TM36 here (DayLighter's) - it's a beast, great features with the OLED display, great in stock form but can't compare with the modded lights.

did you see VN's modded version of the TM36(I linked it above)? He estimates at 757kcd In his thread! Assuming money isn't an issue of course. :P

the tk61 is definitely on the better end of performance per $, no doubt.

Oh, yes, read thru that thread a while back - not sure, maybe before he had estimated #'s. Not surprising - the TM36 is a big beast - dunno reflector diam off hand, but probably bigger than a TK61. DayLighter made me promise not to mod the TM36 while he was away... Innocent

There is a better custom thrower, like 2,200 kcd - made from 3 de-domed XP-G2's in big reflectors, huge host, on the German forum.

If you got the cash, then the TM36vn is it, sounds like - at least you can buy it, or put in an order.

2.2 million cd, amazing!

So if you’re going to get the TK61vn… would you go dedome or dome?

What about a BTU shocker ?
