In case anyone is looking for a bright, inexpensive torch to give at Christmas time, Tmart is selling Ultrafire 501B torches with 5-mode XM-L drop-ins for $9.52. Not the cheapest price I've ever seen on them but a great price anyway. Just a heads up for those that might be interested.
Apparently there is left than 10 hours left for this special.
Also ordered 5 uf-502b’s at 6.86 each. Total for order averaged $2 per item for shipping. So wf-139 for about $7.90 and uf-502b for about $8.86 shipped
I’ve been using a 501B as a bicycle headlight along with general use and haven’t had issues. I did cut shims from an aluminum can to fill the space between the drop in and the head to give a better heat path. I ran it on high for about 20 minutes then quickly pulled it apart to touch the drop in - it was barely warm. Keep in mind this was on a bike with ample air flowing over the light.
The light is fairly floody with a good hotspot. Works pretty good for me.
I like it, but I didn’t like the driver using DD on high. Other than that, the driver is good (5-mode memory). I swapped it to an AK-47A with an extra 2 7135 (1.7A total) to control the heat and get rid of disco modes.
I still haven’t received mine |(
It’s been 1,5 months now, and i’ve received several other orders from china that i’ve made later. But maybe i’ll get it today then
Fasttech has 501s with ‘2-speed’ XP-Gs (high/low only) for about $10 as well. I love those things; they’re just like Timex watches. They might be ‘no-class’, but they’ve always worked just fine for me….and if you lose one, or it fails, you just chuck it and grab another one.
I recently saw someone offering fancy tubes to carry a spare 18650 battery - the dimensions (except for the head) were almost the same as a 501, but they cost the price of three 501s! I figure my ‘spare battery tube’ has a switch and it’s own emitter.
I just ordered two of those XP-G “2-speeds” - for $10 a pop, I’ll take my chances.
