ultrafire wf-502b with xm-l t6 emitter?

Hi all. Im pretty new to lights, and had a quick question. I recently ordered an ultrafire wf-502b that says it has an xm-l t6 led in it. Is this true? Did ultrafire release a 502b with that led? And the over-rated specs claim 1000 lumens which i know wont be true. Thanks in advance.

The xm-l t6 is just a drop in, but I guess it could be an ultrafire one. Those lights are littered all over ebay.

Yes they did, but the drop-in in that light could be from anyone. The Ultrafire itself might be a clone, depends where you got it.

Still, it should be a decent light.

Hi,

and a belated welcome to BLF. :)

The 502B is a P60 host and you can buy them with just about any emitter that is commercially available as a P60 drop-in. There are even 502Bs with SST-50 drop-ins, which makes absolutely no sense as there are better and cheaper alternatives that are more suitable in a flashlight with limited heat sinking capabilities.

Since labor is cheap in China, it's not uncommon to have a vendor, wholesaler or middle man put the lights together from parts. That's one of the reasons quality can vary considerably from batch to batch.

Edit: Note to self: reload tab before posting. ;)

This is the one I bought on eBay last week. The drop-in is definitely not an ultrafire, but there is an XM-L T6 emitter in it. Mine only draws about 1.4 amps on high, not quite the 1000 lumens that was claimed in the listing.

Do a picture of the driver. Since many get stuck at exactly 1.4A reading on their DMM (that often turns out to be a DMM or probes fault) it might be that. 1000 lumens are impossible. But 700 should be realistic if it's driven very good. Even with a rather junkish Q5 type driver, an XM-L being lower Vf would usually draw a bit over that. 1,4A just feels wrong. Full battery at 4.2V?

On a side note... looks like you got a well centered XM-L to me. Congrats! :)

I tried again yesterday with my DMM and it was around 1.44 -1.50, not very steady. I tried to get the best contact I could with the probes on my DMM. The batteries are unprotected UF 3000's that charge up to 4.16 - 4.17 usually. Here is a picture of the bottom of the driver. I don't feel like desoldering to take it out.

Sorry no clue. Does it look like worth 450 Lumens at that current?

It can be pry opened by some thin screwdriver without damaging it. However you'll have to solder it back on if you still wish to use it that way.

I'm going to order a couple of different drivers, I hate the strobe crap. I'll take it apart then. I also ordered some better batteries yesterday, so I'll see if that makes a difference. I would say 450 lumens is about right, it's quite a bit brighter than any other light I own, so I'm happy with it.

I have one 502b with xml it works at 2,4A on high giving ~700 lumen, that with fresh batteries.

After that I dedomed it, I tried to mod the driver trying to enable better modes, I got few combinations but not what i wished(high/mid/low) you can't believe but I got also 1 single mode just strobe! XD

You mean when it comes to YOUR ultrafire wf-502b....
