Doc i kind of see what you mean, you are asking if its feasible to have a mechanical adaptable reflector.
It sounds like the issue will be that the mechanics of it all will impair the effectiveness of the OP and smooth reflector though.

What if its a smooth reflector but made of a durable mylar for example and you press a button and a vacuum action sucks the foil against the orange peel pattern backing
that would work. to instantly change it to an OP reflector

It would definitely have to be a manufactured sliding head, so when the head is slid all the way in the smooth reflector is up against the glass. When you slide the head forward the orange peel matches up perfectly with the cut in the smooth reflector or the oP reflector stops just before it gets to the cut. Like I said like a collapsing drinking cup
