Understanding Nanjg 105c in my Convoy M1

As title suggest, I’m interested in knowing more about my driver in Convoy M1 (Which I get from banggood.com) especially if I can change it.

I recently saw alot of places mention about mode star changing available for Nanjg105C, but saw 1 or 2 post regarding the star on 2 group type (3+5 mode) cannot change their mode or groups. So asking here about it.

Is there any danger for me to try the star if it is unchangeable ? Any safe or easy method to test them ?(without soldering, which means partial or permanent mode)

*I also wondering is all Convoy series using same Nanjg 105c ? exception to modification or custom-build such as from Richard

Some Nanjg 105c drivers have stars which you can selectively solder to the ground ring to choose modes. Like this so-called 4-group.

Convoy flashlights which come stock with 2-group Nanjg 105c drivers have stars on the bottom of the driver board which don’t do anything. These drivers allow you to shift between groups by clicking to LOW, wait about 5 seconds for the blink, then click again.

Yeah, I guess so. Is there any possible mode for the driver ?

The Low mode is a bit annoying for everytime you turn on after 5 secs it blinks. Like permanently disable the 5-group mode, to remove that blink once on low.

I am afraid that this will be difficult. The stars don’t change anything on convoy drivers.
The only solution would be to reprogram the driver but for that you need some tools and knowledge.
The easiest solution is to just replace the driver with one that suits your needs.

There are several threads on reprogramming drivers but for one or two drivers it's probably best to just swap a new one. Dr. Jones and RMM can supply supply custom drivers.

aw…. thats too bad, thought I may change it easily. Reprogramming would be difficult for me, so I guess I have to pass on this.

I had my eyes on Richard’s driver, but I’m out of USA so the shipping its quite over the value I get, totally not worth.
Maybe when I get alot of thing from him then I may consider

Guess its time to close this thread~

There are many international sources for various compatible drivers.

Another question I would like to ask, is other feature it provides by this driver.

The stated feature only how many AMC (8*7135), 2-mode group, etc.
But there is also alot of protection feature I heard about nanjg105c, is it applies to all ?

Example:

  1. Reverse polarity protection
  2. Low voltage warning / stepdown / cutoff
  3. Overheat protection

Anything more not mention ?

Reverse polarity protection is a hardware thing, if it's a 105C it will have a diode which is where that comes from. Any low voltage stuff is in the firmware, and there are about an infinite number of firmware versions that can be flashed onto the 105C hardware. Overheat protection is impossible on the 105C hardware, the controller has no internal way to detect temperature, and the 105C board design has no temp sensor.

Well, if the springs melt, the light will probably go out.

Any picture to show me which is the diode ? so that I confirm the reverse polarity.

That means my LED should have popped out also…. since its over 180 celsius J)
*wait… :~ do you mean the solder came off or the metal really melt ? :expressionless:

If you can see D1 your not far from flashing or replacing the 105c with one of your choice.

If it doesn't have the diode at D1 as in the above pic, or if any of the layout of parts on the PCB is different, then it's not a Nanjg 105C. The hardware, the physical parts, are the same on all 105Cs. The firmware they use can vary wildly but you can't tell anything about the firmware from a picture.

And that pic in the post above is NOT actually a 105C. It does not have the resistors required for voltage monitoring. An actual 105C will have two resistors at the bottom left where that driver has (empty) pads for only one resistor.

Thanks for the clarification, I do see there is 2 resistor on nanjg 105c

I believe since Convoy is trying to control their cost they just use the cheaper Nanjg 105C flashed with the 2 mode groups firmware.

If you can’t flash the firmware by yourself you may look for the Qlite rev.A driver sold in IOS. They are Nanjg driver too but flashed with better mode groups.

You can also buy the regular 105C from lots of vendors like fasttech etc and connect the stars for the mode group you want ...kind of depends what you want .

Now I’m starting to think, does Convoy have their own website ? I’m know little about Convoy except for their simple superior build

Well, SOS and Strobe may come into use, but rarely a chance to do so. Making them easily trigger (involve/hinder in normal operation) is not good anyway, maybe something like trigger after long press.
