Uniquefire UF-T20 + de-domed XP-G2 + TomE's magic = 136k aspheric pocket thrower

Was fortunate enough to have the very kind and talented TomE serve up a custom for me a few weeks ago. Then got laid off… then got a new job… with all the happenings I did not get a chance to put anything up about my kewl new toy.

The base/host is a Uniquefire UF-T20 for about $21 from manafont. It got a bunch a badass shit… I could list it, but I will just use excerpts from our PMs. (Hope you do not mind Tom. If so LMK and I will edit!)

Eff yeah!
I anxiously wait…
:~

Thanks again for building this Tom!

Still enjoying playing with it after weeks. What an awesome compact thrower! The tight aspheric laser-like beam drives my cats nuts. They go ape-shit chasing it lol. On fresh PDs it flat out rips. Gets damn hot too - head to tail - after a bit. So, heat-sinking seems pretty decent at 3A+.

On full flood the moon mode is great for working in your lap with little ambient light. Full throw in moon mode can be good for stealthy wildlife observation… No spill, and just bright enough to see. Like Tom said, the voltage check is really neat too. Some people might not appreciate it, but I geek on stuff like that. The mode levels and arrangement/UI is just spot on, on the whole.

What a guy. He even de-domes his own UF-T20 to double check my light’s output! Sounds like we both won in the end. But I still appreciate this kind of treatment. Stand up chap, this TomE fellow.

This is my first de-domed light. Digging the tint. Not as much as a normal domed warm, but this light was all about aspheric pocket throw - not tint or CRI snobbery. It’s fairly neutral, definitely a bit pale yellow, but I still like it. (It reminds me of the yellow fogs on my car.) CRI is not the best but I still prefer it over a normal domed cool. On full zoom it’s just very intense neutral white. You don’t really notice the yellow then.

I also have to give credit to E1230 for the original basic idea of modding this particular model of light. There was a post I stumbled across months ago where he built one for a member. Think that was an XRE.?. I looked up the light, and thought about buying one forever. Reviews said stock it was so-so. Modded - like this one anyways - it is a real pocket beast!! The head is just big enough to make it a jacket pocket or cargo-pant type of carry, but it’s smaller than a C8. So it is very manageable. I am just very cautious about the big lens.

Before you guys even ask, NO. I do NOT have beam shots. Not sure I will TBH. I live in an apartment bldg in a well-lit complex. In a well lit area. It kinda sucks if you like to play with lights. :frowning: There is no point in trying to get beam shots in my 1,000 sq ft apt for a thrower light. Fail. I will see what I can do if I can find a place to stretch it’s legs. You will have to take Tom’s numbers for it…

Here’s a few shitty phone shots. I don’t even have a proper camera. Maybe I will try to make a shitty phone video one dark night.

with kershaw skyline and ZL sc80 for size

hi there!

moon flood

moon zoom

hi flood

Just took these @ 10:30am. Blinds are open in the next room so its not dark at all. Phone camera auto adjust… don’t even know what the settings are. They actually came out half decent. I think tint is pretty close. Its a little more yellow in reality.

outdoor beamshots

nice!

now why would you leave out a shot of that pretty blue rear end? your tryin to get me goin, huh?

Are you kidding me! A 136kcd Nichia 219 thrower?!

EDIT: after reading it through I now realise it’s an XPG2

That is kooool

Good question ..who's de-domed a nichia ?

This one is from top of my stairs. These stairs are around the corner from the room I took the above ceiling shots in. It is darker down this hall. Without the flashlight I cannot see down the stairs. Its not completely pitch black, but just dark enough to not see and bust ones ass on the stairs.

The falling bombs are vinyl wall art that the Mrs added. They are green and purple. The CRI is not bad at all. This shot gives some idea of the beam even though its short distance indoors.

I should mention, these were shot with far from a fresh Panasonic PD. The voltage test mode flashed 9 times after shooting these… which should be about 3.9v. It is a small but noticeable amount brighter with a completely charged cell.

may have to build a small high powered zoomie like this soon. too bad i already sold the copper pill i had thats made for this light...

That sucks man. But you could do another right?

Its a neat little light. The finish and lens is good for the price. Just needs a better emitter and a bit more juice.

That is an awesome pocket rocket you have there haterade.

Tried to get one of my Armytek Barracuda xml u2 for comparison.

It played havoc with my phones camera for some reason. All kinds of weird innacurate tint adjustments and brightness all over the place.

So, not sure how much you can read into this… its the closest I could get to what my eye sees, but I think it looks more green and sickly in the photo than IRL.

If you want to get the same settings for both pictures, you can either use manual settings or put both of them in the same picture.

And shine it on a dark surface if the hotspot is over saturated.

Yeah I gotta play with it more later. That ’cuda shot is not good.

These are with auto white adjust turned off, no flash, focus set to infinity. Flourescent mode seemed closest to what I see so I used it this time. Still a little cooler than reality. Both have more yellow IRL.

Spill of the cuda seems to throw off the light meter or something. It is not that dark in person. Actually, it is brighter… around 1000 lumen. I can’t find any more manual settings than what I used here.

Will try to do one with both in the same shot, but I need another hand. :stuck_out_tongue:

This is the best I could get both the uf-t20 & barracuda in the same shot. My POS phone camera does not have the manual settings I need.

Thanks for the effort, they both look great.
And for next time if your phone can’t lower the exposure or make the brightness –2 or… What I’m getting at is if it is too bright for your phone camera you should shine it on something dark and not a white surface.

Something like dark wooden doors, red brick walls or dark trees.
