UPGRADE DRIVER - Coleman MAX Cree XR-E LED Multi-Color Flashlight 3 AAA

I have a Coleman MAX Cree XLamp XR-E LED Multi-Color Flashlight 3 AAA and was told that I might be able to almost double the output (currently:115lm) by putting one of the cheap DX 800 or 1000mA drivers in it (Might need more battery capacity though).

I found a 700ma driver that I think might work. Can someone give me some tips on how to do this?

Also this flashlight has multicolor and I would like to keep that feature.

Any suggestions on how to Mod this flashlights performance e.g. replace driver and increase battery capacity, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank YOU!

Are there 3 LEDs in it? A xre a blue and a red?
Only a tailcap switch?

- Yes, there are 3 LED diodes in the flashlight, a white main light and a blue and red lower wattage light.

- I am having a hard time finding out information on the red and blue diodes. I believe the white light is the only Xr-e.

- Yes, it has a tail cap switch but it also has as twist selector switch to select which of the 3 lights is to be activated.

Thank you so much for your quick response. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yeah, you aren't gonna be able to replace the driver because of how it works.

I am not sure with that…perhaps it is not worth the effort because you can get a brighter light for a few $
You could make some pictures of the LEDs and the stock driver everything what you can see and think it could help. Do you have a digital multimeter?

Perhaps you can simply add the driver, so that the white light is brighter but the other two work like now….because I guess the colored LEDs can’t be driven so hard.

I understand that it would be easier to buy another flashlight. This was my way of practicing for other flashlight mods, as this would be my first flashlight mod and this is my only flashlight. And I do like this flashlight. If I can double the lumens for ~$20 it would be a fun and useful project.

I do have a digital multimeter and a digital camera (Although I’m still trying to figure out how to upload photos to this forum? I see the button but it asks for a url link? Can I upload them from my computer?) I will upload photos once I figure out how to upload them to this forum.

Yes, I only want to upgrade the driver for the white LED so that it is brighter. I only want the red/blue lights to still work, but no upgrade.

“you aren’t going to be able to upgrade the driver because of how it works” — is this because of space or because the driver is working for 3 leds?

You have to upload to a image portal and then use this link.
