Upgrade old Coleman?

The last flashlight I bought was a Coleman 75 lumen (you can see it here: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Flashlight-3aaa-Focusing-Led-Max-C004/13848696), so I’m way behind on technology. Is it possible/feasible to upgrade the emitter on this old thing? I still like it; I might have been happy with it if I hadn’t tuned into the conversation and found out how far things have gotten!

While I’m at it: Since I’m new to current technology, I learn something new every time I look for a new flashlight. What I want is a reliable light with a side switch that is significantly brighter than my Coleman (there’s no reason to buy another one otherwise). It doesn’t have to be a tactical light, nor does it need to have a strobe or an SOS function. High, medium, low with some good spill or one that focuses from wide to spot would be fine. And, not being a real connoisseur, I don’t want to spend a lot. I won’t spend more than $30 on it. The Sofirn SP23A was looking good, and then I found that it steps down from its brightest level after a few minutes. I can’t think of any application I would have that would need to have short blasts of turbo (although if it would stay on the next level down without stepping down again I could just ignore the highest level). A ramping light might be nice, but I’m trying to find out how stepping down works with a ramping light. The Wowtac A1S looks pretty good, except that the user still has to deal with a tail switch to turn it off and on.

Anyway, any suggestions about options for me? Thanks.

I had one or two of those coleman lights way back in the day, was pretty happy with them until they started flickering which bugged me. I think thats how I started on these forums, looking for something better…

For $20, I like the atactical A1. Comes with a battery that has a charger built in. Check it out… got mine on amazon.

Thanks for writing back. I really like the video reviews people do, and I’ve seen a few on the A1 and the A1S. One problem is that the cameras people use for their reviews don’t always show the real quality of the light of the flashlights. One man did a review of the A1, and when he did one of the A1S he compared it to the A1. Well, his camera was much better for the second review, so the light looked different in the A1 flashlights between the two videos! So I can’t tell if there’s any significant difference between the two.

But you can tell me this about it. Does it step down from the highest level after a few minutes? If so, is the next highest level still bright enough for most uses?

I dont think the A1 has step down, but I honestly dont know because I use it at work for only short bursts…
