Hello all,
This is my first post. Thank you in advance for any help, and please forgive any silly questions…
I purchased a broken el speleo 2000 headlamp. Besides installing a new toggle switch, NKK S7AL, I would like to upgrade the battery pack that came with it, except I don’t know how many V it outputs. The batteries are encased in epoxy. Anyone know the answer? Any suggestions on what battery to use? I’m guessing it’s 3V because it uses a CREE XML LED.
I would like to upgrade the LEDs while I am at it. Any suggestions on whether to use a 3 Up XP-L star, or XHP35 or a XHP50 or XHP70? I know this probably would require upping the V. Is the crazy talk on my part? I could always replace the XML with a single XPL.
Thanks again for your comments!
The epoxy encapsulation is to make the battery pack waterproof, I guess.
Off the pictures I see in Google, to me it looks like it is using 3×18650s but of course this may be wrong. The thing has some electronics inside, if it is a quality device my guess is that it should be using a fully regulated buck (cells in series) or buck-boost driver, allowing continuous light output in all modes (PWM free).
Changing the emitter for a different Vf one is likely to require a change in the electronics, thus major modding skills seem mandatory. Pictures of the board inside?
I'd go with low temperature high-CRI emitters, that would make colour appreciation much better and get you a massive improvement in clarity of sight. Kaidomain stocks CRI90+ 3000K XM-L2 (upgraded a torch with one :THUMBS-UP: ) and CRI92+ 4000K Nichia 219C emitters (still have one of the older 4000K 219Bs and it is lovely).
With regards to the battery pack, disassemble it and report back whatever you find.
Barkuti, I think the board is a Nanjg 105C. I can't get a picture to attach to the post, here is a link to the picture: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8cmP3XQLrPHVlhjZkI0V2lLR2M
Thanks for the recommendations on the LEDs. Seems like sticking with a XM-L2 will be easiest.
