Uses for old washer and dryer?

Just got a washer and dryer delivered and poorly installed from sears.(Had to fix the half-assed job they did) Decided to keep the old ones instead of paying them $30 to resell them.

They’re 110v. Are the motors any good? I plan on using the tubs for fire pits. Are there any other useful parts in there?

What kind of motor is in it?

sure there are guys that use the housings and whatot…might be able to fix em up…learn how to repair em…then “pay it forward” to someone who needs a washer and drier.

I see you are in San Bernadino…just up the road from the 29 stumps…I know as a young Marine sometimes it was hard to make ends meet on a E-3’s pay (this was also way back in the 90’s as well)

You could also do a myriad of other things

Here are a few “ideas” you might be interested in

Iirc, you can take the washing machine pump and turn it into a water jet cutter thing.

Windmills that generate power and if you have a water supply a pelton water generator all come to mind real fast.

My landlord has the perforated inner drum from a washing machine sitting out front with petunias planted in it….very classy.

I wasn't raised by wolves so when i first saw the fire pit idea I was impressed .

grinding wheel ?.. I'd probably consider saving the pump as well .

If they work why not just sell the pair to someone who might need them for cheap ?

garden planter ..mmm ...now that is classy

I can think of worse things to be raise by then wolves. Many humans could rank lower then wolves. Any ancestor of dogs can’t be that bad in my book.

Sort bricks?

If the washer still works … I used to have 2 washers , one for work clothes and one for good clothes.

You read my mind. :stuck_out_tongue:

The glass bowl in the door, makes a perfect bowl looking, extremely tough, dog water bowl, once you take the plastic door suround off

And the stainless steel drum, with a couple of minor modifications really does makes a good patio fire basket

Wow. I thought about doing that for the fourth. But in the interest of my own well being decided not to.

Grinding wheels will probably be the most useful to me. I’ve been doing a lot of polishing anyways.

Unfortunately neither have a glass door. But that’s a pretty good idea. I’ll keep that in mind the next time I come across one with a glass door.

1- Take out the motor / pump / any other parts you think might ever be useful, button outer shell back up.
2- buy 5#’s of tannerite, insert into shell of washer / dryer
3- shoot at it till it blows up.
4- Repeat
5- drink beers and discuss awesomeness.

Sounds good. But I can’t easily/legally get tannerite in this great state of mine.

I have used a washer/drier motor powered bench polishing/buffing setup using a mandrel available from Grizzly. Used it for polishing 316 stainless and 6AL4V titanium body jewelry which I make for myself and friends. Also some aluminum polishing.

The dryer might be good for stonewashing flashlight bodies, knife blades, EDC gear, jewelry etc.
