Using batteries for Meteor in other lights?

I have 4 new samsung 30Q button top cells I bought for a Meteor M43. Can I use these cells freely, in triples that I have, and use them individually for other lights? Or do they have to be only used together in the M43?

ooo you know that’s a valid question, and i certainly spin my batteries out of the meteor and into single cell triples all the time, never having thought about the potential to unbalance the cells. but with all being in parallel, i think it’s less of an issue.

but i do intend to get some GA’s now that Richard has 96 in stock. (Just gotta wait for my budget to recover - i live in an area with a litany of red light cameras and i just got a noPhoto … nophoto.com)

Cells used in series need to be matched and kept together but these are parallel, so I think as long as you even out their usage equally they will stay fairly balanced even though it’s not as critical here.

I think the same could be done with series cells but it might get confusing to treat each and every one exactly the same so perhaps best to just set those aside for a particular series use so no mistakes are made.

Really bad idea to use anything but 4 like cells, same chemistry’s and same capacities are the best scenario.

Use of non matched batteries is pretty much a dangerous game akin to the old single round in a revolver, the potential for lethal reaction is much higher when using mismatched cells.

Buy 4 new cells, button tops. Use these exclusively in the Meteor. Use protected cells if in doubt, if you’re well versed with Li-ions and their charge/discharge characteristics then high discharge non-protected cells are the optimum.

DO NOT MIX CHEMISTRY! I would also advise to NOT MIX CAPACITY! And DO NOT MIX PROTECTED with NON-PROTECTED cells! Remember when you do these things that it’s not only yourself in jeopardy but also those around you and quite probably your home, which sometimes leads to the entire neighborhood. Be careful! Extreme current discharge is where the chemistry’s are at their most volatile!

No protected batts work in the newer batches of Meteor. Anyhow I am not aware of a prot circuit that trips over 12 Amps Hank offers the M43 with 30q now but earlier it was coming with hg2, both fit great.
