Looking for guidance. I have some very good quality laptop pulls that I would look to use in a six cell heavy modded X60. The reason is I have heard all my protected will trip as it draws over 10 amps.
If all the cells measure same voltage do you think it would be ok?
I’m no expert, but 6x18650 cells in series pulling 10A?
1 - I have not found any high current cells in laptops, so I doubt you will get close to 10A with them. You will likely need some high current cells to get the most out of this light.
2 - I would make sure the cells have not only same voltage, but very similar internal resistance and capacity as well so they will all drain at a similar rate.
If you configure the cells in parallel, you will easily get well over 10A from six of them, and reduce the likelihood of mismatched cells causing explosions and such. If you need more voltage, you might still get enough amps from a 2S3P configuration. If you need 25.2v, you might try a different approach entirely. What exactly are you trying to power? You said a heavily modded X60, but what exactly is in there?
Likely I was the one who was wrong. I didn’t realize the stock holder is made for 6S, and the light is made to use it that way. It would have to be heavily modded indeed to change this.
Thanks the light states use - High drain unprotected required for Turbo mode
So I thought the pulls would work on the 5.2a considered high drain.
I was on the Orbotronics site and saw some IMR high drians. It stinks having protected keeppower and or it rinks that are stated to trip. Not sure even where to buy these days as so many fakes. Thank you for helping. I know unprotected is more dangerous and have never used six at once. Only one in a light.
Yes, the Sanyos you have are good cells, but not considered high drain.
They would likely work for a very short time, but you would not get the output the mods were done to achieve.
If the battery carrier was not modified, and is still 6S1P, and the driver really wants 10A, then you really should pick up something like you are looking at - Samsung 20R and 25R seem to get good reviews. Rated for 20A.
Sounds like a real scorcher!
