I see that some manufacturers use the ANSI/NEMA FL-1 measurement system, which I guess is good when comparing one brand of light with another, but how good is that measurement in “real life”? Take for example the ANSI/NEM FL-1 beam distance measurement…… how much can one see at a distance when the reading is .25 lux……I mean,it may be enought to trigger a reading on a expensive light meter, but can you actually see something at that distance?.( I guess it depends if it’s dark or light/reflective)….I dunno, but I guess I am trying to ask……is this a good comparison tool when shopping for a particular light? Thanks,HB
It is a good tool to compare throw between flashlights, but no, you cannot see much with 0.25 lux. :~ A good practical guide might be half or three fifths of the rated distance.

It depends mostly on the "quality" of your darkness whether you perceive 0,25 lux to be enough.
On a moonless cloudy night with no dust/mist in the air it is quite good.
Same conditions but add just a little dust in the air and you will feel like you need to change the batteries in your torch.
