I selected Pro mode and then I manually selected the following charge currents for about 30 seconds to see what the charger would do. I disconnected the cell temporarily so that I could change the charge current.
When I selected 4000mA, the charge current started to drop.
When I selected 5000mA, the charge current did not reach 5000mA. The internal resistance was about 21 mOhm so I reconnected the cell and tried again.
When I selected 5000mA a second time, the charge current started at 5000mA and it dropped to 2800mA after a few minutes. The internal resistance was 18 mOhm.
1.Two things I noticed. 10440 are difficult to make contact. I have to lift it up to make contact with positive terminalā¦this is the Vapcell 10440. No big deal.
As I found out. The display button must be held down for a few seconds in Pro mode while the screen is flashing. That will activate Pro mode.
2.My two Chargers are different in this regardi, in terms of what you reported.
I have never had to pick a chemistry to charge my batteries in either simple or Pro mode. It automatically does it/ recognizes it. No buttons needed to be pressed. It has always acted that way with L.Ion or Enloop. The only two chemistries that I have used in these chargers.
Thanks again for time and dedication
Thank you for the thorough review.
so not has Test mode? discharge/recharge? coz i was thinking to buy to measure Simonās 26800s how many they have; but whatever if just charges then aproxx can be calculated i guess
Thanks for review!
I was giving my friend a demonstration. I remember your post so I said I better not pull these batteries out while itās charging. I pulled the barrel plug out insteadā¦ because I wanted to change it from Pro mode to simple mode. When I plugged the barrel plug back in thatās when it started smoking. it was easier than unplugging it from the electrical strip because I did not want to turn off the switch disconnecting all of her computer and other electrical components.
It started smoking. I quickly unplugged it.
These things are junk and theyāre dangerous.
Iām so grateful Wells Fargo gave me my money back immediately before the claim was processed. And that was because I didnāt know to hold down display to activate Pro mode. So as it turned out, they are Dangerously defective. So Iām recycling that one and Iām not using the other one I bought an S4 version 3 .
For those of you that have this charger please do not leave your home with your charger on. Do not go to sleep with the charger on. Iād be afraid to go in the kitchen while it is charging.
If itās going to malfunction by pulling a battery out, a barrel plug out it, it can malfunction in other waysā¦
Glad itās not just me. I know 5 amps is a lot but Iām no electrical engineer and I know there are relatively simple ways to not have it blow smoke when power is abruptly cut.
I believe youāre right. I must have had 25 Chargers my whole life , seven or eight different brands none of them did that.
Minute before it happened I told her I like the charger but I never liked doing a review until something is 6 months or a year old and Iām up and smoke it goes.
I apologize for briefly hijacking your thread. My one year S4 had an electrical short tonight. Two days in a row a Vapcell charger had the potential for a dangerous situation. I plugged it in, and Slot 4 was flashing. No batteries in it. It said ERR on it. I put a battery in slot 3 and nothing happened. I took photos which I will provide. I was ready to take a video and thatās when it started to smell. Real bad so I unplugged it.
Letās just say this I will never buy any of their Chargers again. Thereās more history in the past that Iām not going to get into. Have a good night thank you.
P.S The reason I have the power supply in my hand is because that blue light stayed on for about a minute and a half. Very strange. Usually goes off at 3 or 4 seconds
Not your fault. It shouldnāt matter which side you pull and it must be able to handle that situation.
These power supplies usually have a pretty large output capacitance for filtering. If the connected device draws only very little current, the LED might glow up to several minutes.
Thank you. Yes, the fault goes with the manufacturer, Same with the S4 incident last night.
They donāt have the same Pride, quality and top
Notch product as the Germans, Americans and a lot of other European countries. There are more thatās just naming a few.
UPDATE: Vapcell SU2 may start smoking and stop working if the power supply is disconnected while charging a cell at 5A while using Pro and Manual mode.
I reproduced the issue with these steps:
Put the charger in Pro and Manual mode.
Insert a 21700 cell.
Press Current button until 5000mA is selected.
Press and hold Display button until charging starts.
Remove the DC power plug while the 21700 cell is charging.
Expected result:
The charger should switch across to the powerbank mode and show āUSBā on the display.
Actual result:
The display went blank, the backlight turned off, and smoke started coming out of the vents.
I removed the 21700 cell to stop the smoke.
It looks like a short circuit has been created between the positive and negative terminals. Smoke came from the sheath of a black wire that connects from the sliders to main board.
āErrā is now displayed when I connect the charger to a power supply.
I do not recommend inserting a cell when the charger displays āErrā. It may result in the cell being shorted and cause a fire.
Well that is very disappointing! Not to mention quite dangerous. I have been following the discussion of the charger. I thought it might be nice to have a charger that would do 5 amps into large cells like the 26800 cells that I use. Even though I would likely not use the power bank function intentionally, I have had times when power was interrupted during charging. It would be very nasty to have power come back on and the thing go up in flames.
I wonder what it is about some Vapcell chargers. I have also read about the S4 burning components when trying to use the power bank function.
When it happened to me 2 days ago, with my friend witnessing it. Itās when I plugged it back in. It was 2 X P26A in there charging at 2,500 milliamps. Unplugged it plugged it back in and thatās when it happened. Mine wasnāt at four or five amps. Prior to plugging it back in.
Maybe it was mine you read about. Last night my My S4 had something fry electronically I believe I put it on this thread and hijacked it.
They never responded to me. It was a hassle from the beginning they never sent me a confirmation email then when I had issues they havenāt answered me. Thankfully my bank reimbursed me right away have a good night just stay away from Vapcell chargers
Maybe so. Either way itās just another example of how much failure and potential dangers these Chargers have. I returned four of them over the years.
Thank God for younger Minds with better memories. I asked my friend what happened. Sheās half my age. I trust her version better than my own , the beginning was Fuzzy for me, I knew what happened at the end.
She said I put a P28A in. I switched it to pro at 5 amps. For about 10 seconds. Then I switched it to simple mode, without unplugging it. Then I put it at a lower charge rate probably 2500 or 3000 milliamps. Next was I put another P28A in. Then I unplugged it. When I plugged it back in is When the Smoke happened.
It wasnāt charging at 5 amps prior to unplugging it and plugging it back in. it was charging at 2 X 3 A or 2* 2.5A. Not sure.
Vapcell responded to my email.
I already got refunded by my great bank. Why would I want new ones? Between the gentleman who reviewed this and me and hopefully others they are aware of this issue. Itās certainly isnāt fixed. Not yet. If They send me new ones I wonāt use them. They are not safeā¦
At least they are showing an effort. Because my email was very very honest and direct about how I feel about their products.
P.S.I sent them this link in that email with my issue and the guy who first reported the issue near the beginning of this thread. Heās the one who pulled the battery out and it started smoking.
