I’m pretty happy that I was able to see it and get some shots. I’ll be 155 the next time this happens, 105 years from now. I’ll have a tough time dragging the big tripod out then.
The Earth was blocking my view of Venus and my Iludium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator let me down. Where’s the kaboom! There should have been an earth shattering kaboom.
Thanks for the astronomy lesson there, racoon city!
I live near Fermi Lab in Illinois. Last night after work I drove through the complex on the way to my Tuesday ride and there was a group of 30-40 Physicist types in a scrum with 5-6 big telescopes observing the transit. Would have loved to have seen it live.
Hey, I’m a ’sotan too. Born in Minneapolis. My immediate family used to live in Wayzata and Excelsior. The old family homestead from the 1800’s was a dairy in Mound, out on the far West end of Lake Minnetonka. But I grew up in the South, from about 9 years old on up to my late 30’s, mostly in Atlanta area, but also North Georgia mountains. I’ve been back in the Midwest for 18 years now.
I was born and raised in South Saint Paul. Family still has a dairy farm in Princeton. Moved down here to S.C. 7 years ago because Missus #2 didn't care much for the winters up there.
Actually, as I type this I'm getting ready to fly back up to the Twin Cities tomorrow for my 20yr class reunion. Should be good time.
So, that begs the question.... think the TSA would let me fly with this?
Well this is just like a big ol’ family reunion, all from the land of hotdish…and Match is from dogpatch! I work just up the road in Woodbury. You might wanna bring an E09 with instead…we can’t risk losing you here!
Sashi, I made a solar filter by using a #11 welding mask filter. It’s pretty easy to mount it in a carrier and rig it up to attach to your camera. I used a 70-300mm lens on a Nikon D40. I made the filter yesterday as the transit was happening…it’s not perfect but it’s nice enough considering it’s a $4 filter. I plan on making a proper filter for my 8” telescope…someday
