verboseFoy (warning: ramble/rant over-rev module disabled)

I don't post this assuming my presence here is significantly . . . significant. I do however, feel the need to account for my absence because as we all know, Foy likes the sound of his own voice so very, very much. Although I get somewhat over-satiated with flashlights from time to time, I can't imagine staying away from BLF indefinitely. Whatever Budget Light Forum is and whatever it may become, be it superstardom or a cozy corner for late-night flashaholics, I don't think it's too much to say that this is an important board. New arrivals with even average sincerity soon discover BLF is a special kind of unique. I am proud of whatever part I've had, keeping this the best forum on the web or at least not making it worse! I know that with or without Foy, BLF is valuable. I want to remain part of that.

Unlike my previous sabbatical, this time was simple temporary burnout, compounded by other demands. My oldest son's (Las Vegas City firefighter) wife gave birth to twin boys, both healthy and strong but one was born with club feet. This same child also had some kind of breathing problem requiring surgery. All is well now and his feet get straighter with each new cast. They already had three young kids so, of necessity we became closer.

This is Nixon right after surgery . . .

And Jaxon in a staged shot by a photographer friend . . .

And both together . . .

During this same time I also indulged my other hobby; building computers. I've built several dozen over the past 18 years or so and although my old Q6600 based machine was still humming along nicely (still does) a lot has happened since 2007. If I could afford it, I would be into PCs like I am flashlights.

This is my new home rig . . .

I built two new machines for work about a week later. I spec'd them both exactly alike . . .

I photographed the entire process. Here are links to the slide shows but I warn you, it's only marginally entertaining if you're into this kind of thing. Or if you wish to endure my running commentary. You have been warned.

Anyway, thanks for putting up with me. Maybe someday I'll find some balance and these long absences won't be necessary.

Good to see you again, Foy!

Good to have you back Foy!

Welcome back, Foy!

The very best wishes to your family!

I missed you a lot. Hope you continue to drop in occasionally.

I tend to stray as well. The last time I got into flashlights, it lasted about 6 months and then I left (cpf back then), for almost 3 years. I tend to get bored easily, sounds like you do too.

Welcome back Foy. :)

welcome back foy!

A warm welcome back Foy! So good to hear from you, and best wishes for you and your extended family.

Welcome to BLF , Foy .

Before this calendar year has ended you will probably own a flooder , a thower , an EDC , a headlamp , and a keychain light , and at least one backup for each of these categories .

You will become somewhat of an 'expert' on flashlights , and will start ordering them for your friends and family .

After you have aquired enough flashlights , you will begin to have some idea of what you believe will be the perfect light for you .

Eventually , you will realize that there is no commercially available flashlight that is perfect for your tastes and you will experiment with modifying your lights or purchasing a custom flashlight .

We will gladly assist you on your journey to total enlightenment .

Welcome back Foy!!

welcome back foy!

you go all in with all hobbies huh? that computer build, and my new case i just got the other day, makes me want to open up my wallet and finish my build.
ran out of money with a baby on the way, so i skimped on my ram, HDD and video card. that was 2 and a half years ago. but my MB and CPU might not be worth throwing the money at until i can afford a new build
