Sorry I didn't make any good comparisons. Basically I got the modded the TK75 from Vinh, loaded it up, and the stock one I had, both with fresh batteries. Turned it on inside. Big difference.
Went outside. Bigger difference.
If I had to guess I'd say at least a 30% bump in performance. After that the second stock tk75 I had went off to Vinh within two days.
Rdfronty, can you post that over there? Or allow me to take a part of it and post it? There doesn’t seem to be as much interest as I’d hoped over there and that would help.
Well to be fair the light he is probably getting for around 100 shipped. Another 20 for driver and copper stars. He does his work for 60 in labor and misc parts and then $12 for shipping.
I think its a fair price, especially for the performance your getting for $195.
I saw a thread a few weeks ago that included a modded BTU shocker and the beamshots were breathtaking. Made my current lights and many other of the comparison flashlights look like incandescent lights.
My question is: what are the runtime[s] and mode[s]? I’m not sure if I’m blind or they just aren’t posted?
Using the IOS driver you have a few options that will affect your runtime greatly. My latest BTU with IOS driver in direct drive mode is pushing 6A when using 2000mah 20R’s, about 4.4A using protected 3400mah Keeppowers, and somewhere in the middle using panasonic 2900mah PD’s. With that setup I’d expect perhaps 15-20min max with 20R’s, 30-35min with PD’s and maybe 45-50min with Keeppowers.
Now I think Vinh says his are in the 5A range, so possible a little more runtime and a little less power output. These are rough numbers of course. I know my 20R’s were at about 3.88V when I checked them today after what I’d guess is just under 10min runtime total. At 6a these BTU’s will drain little batteries down in a hurry. Obviously you have the option for much better runtime by sticking quality 3400’s as long as you don’t mind about a 20% power loss. With the numbers these lights put out, that 20% loss really isn’t that big a deal. Obviously all this is on high. You still have mediums way over 2000 lumens to help with better runtime too if so desired.
Boy, I'm exhausted!! Working on these Shockers all weekend... I'll gladly support vinh doing this, just hope there's enough interest. I've emailed him actually in the last couple of days giving him tips, and I'll gladly relay or publish anything else that may help. Trick is getting the amps up above 5A, actually hit 6A on one or two. Set a new record for lumens - measured just over 5,100 at 30 secs off the latest completed today, with domes, and 240 kcd measured at 5 meters. It is very time consuming work for me, but vinh showed he can do mods very efficiently.
It's not a light for everyone for sure, but there isn't anything else out there anymore with the size reflector big enough to get what amounts to 3 C8's.
3 cells in series, 3 LED's, measured 6A at the switch of the carrier, so, something close to 6A to each LED. Dunno how to measure the threads.. Gotta run to work - make $$$
