Wanting to upgrade this X300U-A, super super dim light output!

So I bought this X300U-A second hand because I found a great deal on it. I am beyond disappointed by its output though! I tried taking it apart and cleaning the lens and the reflector, put new batteries in it, and no change. Looking at it, it comes apart super easy and I feel like it would be SUPER easy to replace the LED and board, and possibly the reflector and lens as well?

if you have any suggestions for me if I wanted to replace all the parts in here? i have only really put together one other flashlight, and I am pretty nooby to it all still, so i just bought parts recommended to me and soldered it together in a convoy host.

I am still pretty nervous to just order parts as i feel like i don’t have a full understanding of how it all works… if you have any suggestions I am all ears! my goal is to use this as a weapon mounted light, more than likely on a 11.5 556 ar? It will be suppressed so it isn’t going to have to deal with the craziest concussive forces. One of my concerns is I am not sure how it interacts with the adapter on the back, as it has a switch as well as a plug for a tape switch… I assume I could still use what ever board I wanted to though, right? because that switch will simply or disconnect power to the board, and then the board operates based on like… duration of power it receives? that is a guess obviously, but from what i can tell the only interface it has is literally just the connector springs to the back of the two 3v CR123A’s? so I am guessing I would just solder that smaller battery plate onto whatever board I end up using? Sorry, at this point most of that was just me thinking out loud lol.

the led board is 16mm with a 20mm metal spacer around it, then it has a driver board under it that is 19.25mm, then it has a little pcb wired under that that has two springs to connect to the two side by side cr123A’s. so i plan to re use that little board to make it work with this housing. the LED is a 5mm square one with the large dome lens thing over top of it. the reflector is 25.5mm diameter and 19.71mm tall. there is just under 34mm of space from the bottom lip of the cap where the lens would sit against down to the bottom of the opening where the board sits on the other side to connect to the two batteries.

What power source are you planning to run the light on? 16350’s? CR123A? Series/parallel?

Keep in mind the reccomended max discharge rate of CR123A cells is something like 1A, so you’re limited to c. 6V * 1A = 6W, which will realise 900lm at 150lm/W.

You may find it a challenge to find a driver board that’ll accept 6V (or 8.4V if you’re using 16350 cells), most driver boards are designed for 1S lithium (3-4.2V).

Good places to look for parts are mtnelectronics if you’re US based and/or Kaidomain (be aware I’ve had painfully slow shipping times my previous 2 orders).
