WARNING: Cometa – read/fix BEFORE inserting battery

I received my Cometa today via DHL! Paid for the expedited shipping.
Couple things, it came well packaged in cutout foam with a small package inside containing a lanyard, two small o-rings, one large o-ring, a black switch boot, a translucent pink switch boot, and a battery spacer. There was a paper sleeve around the box, and foam wrapped around that.
I put in an Efest 5200 and the tail lit up like it should. I pressed the switch and the tail went out, but it didn’t come on. I turned it up to see if the LED was on low but nope. I turned it back over and heard the battery bottom out. What? Clicked the switch a couple times and now the tail was no longer lit. Hmmmm.
I pulled the cell out and touched the spring in the tailcap with my finger, ouch! It was hot!
And, when I checked the spring at the other end, it had collapsed. Uh-oh.
I pulled it apart partially, including taking off the black centering ring. The solder on the mcpcb was really large (tall) blobs. I concluded that it was possibly shorting out on the centering ring.
So, I re-extended the driver spring, and reinstalled a cell, with the head and centering ring still off. The switch lit up again, and when I turned it on, success!
I put some Kapton tape over the solder blobs, reinstalled the centering ring, and checked it again, still good.
So, I reassembled the head and turned it on again, all good. It was in wide mode, so I zoomed it in, nice and bright, but, the color is way funky. I’m afraid something bad happened to the emitter when it shorted out. It is splotchy. Some nice, white, some ugly yellow, and worse, what looks like UV blue…
Is it likely this LED is fried now?
Other than that, very nice fit and finish. Anodization looks great! Some lube on the threads.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
