WARNING!! toshiba c655d battery pa3817-1brs meltdown

charging laptop and after about 2 hours smelled something.
took me a while to find the odor was the laptop.battery very hot.hot enough it flexed as i removed it.
label peeled off and stuck to my hand as i tossed it outside.
some of these are under recall but not this particular pack.toshiba seem uninterested when i called them.but might have been the typical minimum wage script monkey i got.
methinks the defective batch is bigger than realized…
filing with cpsc next.btw red sanyos…

Lucky you caught in time in case it started to catch fire instead of just vent. You would think there would be a tempature sensor that would cut power to the battery. And if so hot cut the whole laptop off.

If I leave my phone in the truck it will say battery to hot to charge. Abd won’t take a charge until it cools down

Glad you’re alright!

i dont like to charge anything when not home or sleeping.
and yes this is definitely a safety related failure.pack should shut down and lock out before it gets this hot.

Ultrapanic cells inside maybe?

seen red ultrapanic sanyo knockoffs yet?

Once one of the internal membranes starts to fail (“dendrite” puncture) that cell will produce increasing heat, even if the power is off.

Li-ion cells can do this without being connected to any power or charging source.
This has been a major area for research publications since Li-ions first came into use.

Yeah, yeah, extremely unlikely, almost never happ …. oh, wait ….

Thats ultrapanics attacking again :confounded:

ahahhhahhahahhhaahahaahahahhahahaahhaha

Telling about attack, I remember Lauri of the hydraulic press channel/beyond the press. That guy is REALLY crazy almost all of their videos is guarantee you will laugh!

Watch the end of those videos, all have the “extra content” wich “very dangerous, it could attack any time”

Have fun :sunglasses:

Yeah, it’s funny haha, isn’t it? Chinese marketers agree, now they’re using “DANGEROUS” as a product name:
