Interesting project. The copper heat exchanger looks really cool. How do you plan to move the heat from the water to the air?

Why do you want to use an aspheric lens? It will increase throw by a bit? Light collection efficiency of a lens like this is only 25-30. Whereas a reflector puts 70+ of the light into the beam. If you really want to use a lens I might consider using a precollimator lens which can double the light collection efficiency.

Not convinced its quite as bad as that, I have an L2 setup with a culnm1.tg & 5a driver, I also have exactly the same combo in an aspheric setup

The L2 is making 18Klux at 5 meters , the aspheric is making 24klux at 5 meters……

Lens diameter and FL is a huge factor.

That was part of this crazy idea to have a big zoomie, but the shape will not work because the focal point of the aspheric lens will interfere with the reflector, so we will be forced to drop that for now. Using a precollimator lens is above my pay grade, not sure I can handle that, but the door is open that we could try. :+1:

When I first joined BLF, YOU guys love of flashlights and friendship helping each other made me want to contribute something. The only thing I have is machining. Finishing up some adjustments with the dremel tool and testing the water flow, that looked exactly like I wanted. I will measure the flow rate tomorrow. All the wiring will need hooking up to the driver, that part concerns me

The Water cooled flashlight is a success !!

Cavitation can be a problem but once the air bubbles were removed it recirculated without issue.

Still getting things ready for some testing on the light and making a Lumen tube to check it also.

I was not sure how the driver would handle long run times so we decided to add a copper heat sink to the rear of the driver with Artic MX-4. There is 3mil tape in the area of a possible short.

The light was coming on when the battery tube touched the spring and not when seated. So we turned the outside diameter and taped it.

Just under 8 amps @ 12 volts. Guessing around 8500K lumens, not able to get accurate readings yet.

8 inch lumen tube is not calibrated yet, guessing it’s reading high 2K.

25010 lux at 6.46 meters is 1,043,707 CD and 2043 meters throw, approx 8500 lumens.

This light just blew a mcpcb 1 day after I changed a burnt XHP70.2. I will fix it again with another modded mcpcb.
Texas Ace has a Luminus 90.2 kit ordered I will probably put in, but that will require more invasive work, so I may put that kit in another big light.

I know this light looks strange, but it is an experiment in heat control. If were possible to find a very small pump, it would be possible to incorporate the cooling into the head ( no exterior tubing ), and improve its appearance.

The water-block is genius, so how about taking advantage of the length of the battery tube for cooling the water temperature ?
Something like a battery tube with milled fins on the whole length and the water pipe going through the fins. Sorry for the 4 years old kid drawing

You can see there he has picked a lens with a monstrous 100mm+ FL to make the effect as dramatic as possible.
