I thought this was most people’s experience too, that a aspheric will outthrow a same diameter reflector, even without a wavien collar.
But seeing the machinery CNC man has in his shop, he might want to try to make wavien collars himself, out of aluminium billet or stock.
When you polish it as good as possible it’ll probably work 80% as good as the real thing.
Well, when they show a wavien collar doubling output they tend to use a worst case example (a small lens with a very long focal length) this obviously shows the biggest gain from a collar being added. but in reality with a sensible lens setup the gain will be far less impressive.
Here is an example
You can see there he has picked a lens with a monstrous 100mm+ FL to make the effect as dramatic as possible.
I am getting 600Kcd out of a 67mm lens with a 25mm FL no collar, I cannot get close to that with an L2/L6 size reflector
I have also had the same result with a C8 size host one reflector one aspheric even with the reflector version cranked to 5 amps and the aspheric only at 3.5a it still produced 70kcd more
I think if CNCman were to add a whopping great AR coated lens to that Mt35 it could be absolutely devastating!!, though i think id pass on the XHP70 and look more towards SBT90.2
.
That was part of this crazy idea to have a big zoomie, but the shape will not work because the focal point of the aspheric lens will interfere with the reflector, so we will be forced to drop that for now. Using a precollimator lens is above my pay grade, not sure I can handle that, but the door is open that we could try. :+1:
Thanks Everyone for the comments…

But I want everyone here to know that YOU guys are the reason for me trying this. I WILL NEED YOUR HELP on the technical things. When I first joined BLF, YOU guys love of flashlights and friendship helping each other made me want to contribute something. The only thing I have is machining. Everything else about flashlights I am very green. .

Finishing up some adjustments with the dremel tool and testing the water flow, that looked exactly like I wanted. I will measure the flow rate tomorrow. All the wiring will need hooking up to the driver, that part concerns me

I would like to say Thanks to everyone here at BLF that helped giving advice and direction that made this possible.
Next thing to do is gather results and do some testing. For this part, much help from you guys will be necessary, I’m a noob doing this.
If weather permits tonight we will get more pics with phone.
