So I picked up a weedeater lt7000 from the side of the road. Ran kinda rough long story short I ended up taking it apart cleaning everything put it back together and couldn’t get it to run start up it would turn over but just for a second or so. I’m not new to small engines. I have owned several nitro trucks along with trimmers and mowers to jetskis and snowmobiles. Anyways, I was looking for some simple carb adjustments like a factory setting couldn’t find them anywhere online. I usually see like turn all the carb screws all the way in then turn this one .25 turn and that one 2.50 turns and that will be factory setting. Another thing someone took the priming bulb off of the thing. I’m just wondering if anybody can shed any insight to this problem of mine.
First thing I would do is pull out my EDC SK68 (This is a flashlight forum and we need to stay on topic) and use it to find the throat of the carb. Spray a little ether down it, and if runs for a few seconds and then quits, you know its a fuel supply problem. If it fails to start with the ether, then it is probably an ignition problem.
BTW, make sure that you use a standard SK68 and not some hopped up MT-G2 because with all that ether and gasoline around, you could blow yourself up.
On the other hand, it could have been on the side of the road because someone smarter than you or I knew it was no good.
Does it count that I’m modding my tk-61 and weed wacker at the same time? (smiley face), anyways it did run when I picked it up and those little 2 strokes are incredibly simple that’s why I picked it up. It did run when I picked it up just not that well. But what threw me off was when I was looking up a factory setting for the carb every single model they made had a primer bulb I didn’t think twice about it since it turned before I even tossed it in my car. Took it home and it ran just a little weak. Anyways, like I said it’s got spark it’s getting gas because it will turn and I know it’s a carb issue I was just hoping someone would just happen to know the settings right off the bat I might just have to start from scratch.
I think you’ll be chasing ghosts if you try to tune a carb that’s been sitting around for a while and has worn diaphragms and gaskets. You can get a gasket repair kit for it.
Yeah, I just went through the same sort of thing last year with my pole chainsaw. I replaced the diaphragm with one from another machine but I couldn’t get it started until I ordered a carb adjustment tool off eBay. It was around $7
I am not sure what engine your Weed Wacker has, but on many of these smaller two stroke engines, the fuel mix feeds through the priming bulb, and depending on the design, the engine may not run with those parts missing.
On some 4-stroke engines, the priming diaphram needs to be intact to create engine vacuum to pump the fuel…similar principle, but a different application.
^ It may well need that priming bulb.
Another thing to consider with 2-strokes are the crank case seals.
I’ve picked up quite a few of these type things from auctions, I often find that the previous owners have put then away after use without using up all the fuel
Being a petrol oil mix the petrol has long since evaporated, but left behind the sticky oil which gums up inside the carb
I found often a good spray of carburettor cleaner in the carb and into to the fuel intake on the carb, then after a few minutes to let it work, pull it over a ccouple of times whilst spraying some more carb cleaner down the carb
Doesn’t always work, but probably 7 out of 10 times its got them going again
This site is really good for stuff like this. They have a lot of video’s and even a toll free number. Their parts are usually pretty well priced as well.
It starts and runs for a few seconds then stops, did you clean out the micro mesh screen filter inside the carb…my fathers weed wacker did the same thing…opened the fuel feed part, inside is a small dome mesh screen, it was full of goop for the most part choking off the fuel flow, just enough seeped thru when I pumped the bulb to fire up and run for a few seconds but would quickly “run out” and stop
Part 16 here (screen fuel inlet)
Be VERY careful with #8, it is a thin film rubber diaphragm that pumps the fuel thru the carb, if you tear it, gotta buy the rebuild kit (or at least a replacement diaphragm)
