We've Finally Figured Out What Makes LED Bulbs So Inefficient - Popular science

Sorry if this was already posted and i missed it

i read that article somewhere too.

Thanks for posting! I didn’t see this before.

That was an interesting read, thanks for sharing!

That's really interesting.

Would perhaps a bigger dome reduce the amount of photons hitting each other and thus 'extract' more light?

The dome does help with efficiency of light extraction (hence the output drop when dedoming). But it’s electrons colliding with each other rather than effectively combining with electron holes to create photons in the first place that’s the problem discussed in the article, which is a different issue.

This article is quite interesting, it’s on how photons are produced: Producing a Photon | HowStuffWorks
As is this one more specific to LEDs: How Light Emitting Diodes Work | HowStuffWorks

Oh, well we know that by supercooling electrons align and that would solve the problem, although it would take considerably more power to super cool the LED..

Maybe graphene would help in this situation.

I don’t know if I could handle my MT-G2 making MORE than 3500 lumens at some 8A! I’d be blind for sure!
