I know it's a long shot, but what about it? Tons of different ways it could be done. For example a reality show that features people using lights in mock emergency situations. Or a show that shows lights being used for practical purposes, like work or camping. Or a show that focuses on reviews of lights? Or a show that focuses on modding flashlights. Come on... you are all thinking the same thing I am... A show that encompasses all of the above and then some!
I still think it's a huge long shot. But... the MFGs would love it and might help finance it as it would surely help sales by a huge amount. By finance I mean mostly free products to test and advertising. And if all products from all markets were featured it would encourage the non-China MFGs to compete with the Chinese companies.
The only downside I see is increased demand usually creates increased prices. That would be bad.
I know, I know, probably just a pipe-dream. But with hundreds and hundreds of cable/sat channels with all sorts of random crap on them maybe a one-hour show once a week about flashlights is something that could be done.
Maybe a Top Gear of flashlights. You know, insane modding projects (SST-90 or HID in a keychain light), stupid challenges (replacing landing lights on an airfield with single cell AA flashlights) and pointless tests (which tank cannon search light is best suited to be mounted on your compact car?).
And then there would have to be the token serious tests of regular flashlights (...which, of course, means handing it over to our tame flashlight fanatic. Some say, he can determine a LED's tint by touch alone and that his nipples glow in the dark. All we know is, he's called the Candlestick).
Yeah, well... not a snow ball's chance in hell of this ever seeing the light of day ;)
