I like somewhat throwy lights, but I don’t really do large high-power throwers.
I would think that any large light with at least one SBT90.2 emitter would be a good choice, but I don’t have first-hand experience with SBT90.2 lights.

Both lists are missing Convoy 3x21D, which noticeably outperforms even the L8 and blows away everything else near its price range.

As an L7 owner I’m interested in how it compares for sustained output. Is it competitive?

NVM I found a graph. 1000 lumens sustained output is pretty disappointing.

Well, Wurkkos ts30s is essentially 1400lm sustained output…

The stepdown in 3x21D is not due to thermal reasons, purely a software problem. Just step it up manually.

Why arent there any bigger ones? Anybody remember the old pistol grip hunting and fishing spotlights with the 12v brick battery and giant 7-8" reflectors? They were cheap. Why isnt anybody selling one of those with a stronk emitter?

Won’t be long and there will be a new zoomie LEP out with 10000 lumens at least 10km throw. Haha it is Gunnar be a beast.

I personally reccomend the amutorch dm90. I own the flashlight myself, and although heavy, it is one of the longest beams in the world for the price. Just about any large reflector modern sbt90.2 flashlight will throw far. Also consider the Acebeam k75, the wildtrail Wt90, the astrolux mf04 and mf05 (longest throw led flashlight), and the BLF Gt90. The last options are quite expensive but probably the best state of the art LED flashlights for long range use.

Yes, friends and relatives used those for hunting at night, sometimes homemade with a motorcycle battery and car bulb. I guess its inconvenient to make a modern LED one although they do exist for $60 and run off a single 18650 in the pistol grip. They werent really practical to walk around with the 12v lead acid battery around your shoulder.

I guess you could design a light to run off a couple of these. Biggest advantage would be that they would handle a continuous trickle charge better than a lithium ion battery making for a good emergency light. Everything else is probably a downside though

Yes looks familiar, we use these as house burglary alarm batteries.

The lamp I was on about, however was back many years ago and the guys used car/motorcycle batteries because they were cheap or free, if you search the junkyard

I had BLF GT, now have K75. Insane flashlight. It’s a keeper. No doubt.

I also have the Acebeam K75 and the Acebeam T28. Both are very impressive throwers, with the T28 being much smaller and lighter in weight, running on a single 21700.
