I used to pay only 30bux or so for electricity, before rates skyrocketted.
I went to all curlies ages ago, then all LEDs the last few years, even 2/3/4ft fluo tubes. So 100W hotwire = 25W curly = 13W LED. I got eyes like a cat, so don’t need too many lights except for reading.
Gas in winter, though… quick way to go REALLY broke.
But yeah, chillaxing, drinking whole pitchers at a time, just lolling around and going for nice cold soaks in a tub or even just a quick shower to cool down, all seems to do me just fine.
I lived in this house for 30+ years without AC… Yes one can exist.
I also lived in New Orleans for 16 years and wouldn’t run the little window AC units because it cost too much…

it has a lot of salt so easy does it. “they say” it helps with leg cramps.
i do not have cramps…i like the taste of vinegar in just about anything.
We’re too hot here in the UK at the moment, temps in the 30’s/90F range.
Totally get you with the unsweetened lime, I’m either squeezing half a fresh and dropping the juice in a pint of cold water (which my mouth tells me is sweet ish?) or whizzing a couple of lemons with water/sugar/ice and then washing the pulp through a sieve with more water. The lemonade needs a frightening amount of sugar to make it right, too much.
Before they got obscenely expensive, I used to squeeze my own limes. Either by hand or with that wooden buttplug thing with the ridges. Used to bring 1-2 per day to work with me for limeade.
When they were 10 for a buck, I’d get a few dozen at a time. Little dry brown spots that I knew I had to use them fast, and I’d whip out the juicer (handy, but a pita to clean, dry, then rebox) and bottle the juice in the fridge.
Used to keep the strainer thing wide open. Get the bug-wings and all.
It’s not often, and if so often only one drink, maybe two. I just don’t really want to be at a drunk or inebriated level any more.
For beer it’s Hoegaarden, a Belgian white wheat or something, I’m not an alehead. Pretty good IMO. Most American beers give me a stomachache these days. Used to get Coors Golden or Miller High Life, but not anymore. Been wanting to try the Aldi beers. ETA also got a Mexican beer frequently but don’t remember which.
For spirits, it’s Sailor Jerry rum. Cheap and as good as I’d ever want.
I really want to get some Finish Kyrö malt or rye whiskey, as recommended by Ian McCollum from Forgotten Weapons.
I haven’t cared for any of the bourbons or whiskeys I’ve tried so far, but they’ve all been cheaper American stuff, except for Woodford, and I didn’t even really like that. However I’m open to trying other things as well.
I got a nice thick faceted Hoegaarden glass. Good stuff, too.

I like darks. Heinies Dark, though that’s hard to find if not discontinued. Dinkel-Acker Dark, similar. Catamount Ale around Christmas time is good. A lot of Samuel Jackson beers and ales are good, too. Guinness, too, but they seem to have a MAP and that never goes on sale. Ooh, Newcastle Nut Brown Ale is yummy, as is Killian’s Red.
Been ages since I got any, though. Nothing by me has convenient parking, and I’m not about to go out to Lawn Guyland just for that.
I will admit that the name is the exact reason I got it the first time. Turns out it’s good enough to keep buying here and there. I also prefer bottles over cans.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of those you mentioned around here, but I’ll keep an eye out. All the non-liquor the stores carry is the big name corporation stuff, although I have been seeing cans of IPA and such the last year or so when they became popular again. Like a lot of “local” stuff I’ve never heard of. About a decade ago I had a Voodoo Ranger and thought it horrible so I never got anything else similar. I was younger though and surely there will be better ones, tastes change.
Yeah, you can’t get anything good at a stupermarket or even a lot of commodity sodypop’n’beer joints, but only those that specialize in beer/ale, perry, cider, and sodypop only in passing.
They’ll carry the generic cheap swill, but more often the harder to get stuff, craft beers, local breweries, etc.
