Woof!
I liked the tip of the hat to James Brown right the end: “On the one!” That’s one of JB’s famous lines about playing funk on the one-beat, rather than on the two & four backbeats used so often in rock 'n roll.
Sandy Denny – 'Next Time Around' (live, 1972)
Just Sandy alone, at the piano, singing a song of her own. The melody is haunting. Denny eases through the key changes like they weren't even there.
And this is live. There are no overdubs, no second chances. The sensitivity, and the bittersweet sense of melancholy, it's all coming from Sandy.
Originally broadcast in 1972 on BBC In Concert, this song was reissued on the 2016 compilation I've Always Kept A Unicorn: The Acoustic Sandy Denny. Of the 40 tracks contained on the 2-CD set, I'd say about two thirds, frankly, are kinda ho-hum. But that still leaves a dozen tracks that range from very good to great.
Last year, I took a deep-dive into the music of Sandy Denny, posting a BLF review of four of her best known recordings. Prominent among them is her collaboration with Led Zeppelin on The Battle of Evermore.
Broken Peach. One of those “How have I never heard of them before???” bands.
and an original
I’m seriously impressed with their covers and originals, and just the choreography that goes into the vids.

Oh, yeah!
Last year, @turkeydance posted a link in this thread to Broken Peach`s version of Tainted Love.
It’s killer.
Aha. when I was watching that one I would’ve sworn I saw it before, but couldn’t place where.
Shouldda known someone here posted it…
The third chick, Erika, gives like 150% in each video. All the others are smooth and “flowing”, and she’s like Tina Turner on uppers. The eyes, mouth, expressions, gestures, movements, she’s like 100% pure energy.

You know, I never focused on that. Her intensity is crazy.
I love it!
Seriously. I watch the videos, 99% of the time I’m watching her.
Me, too. Now that I’m paying attention, I can’t look away!
Haven't done any cheesy pop in a while. Both of these tunes are hook-crazy.
The Knack – "My Sharona" (1979)
Tommy Tutone – "867-5309/Jenny" (1981)

To be honest I never heard of the guy until he died

The facial expressions of the third girl in "Don’t You Want Me’ are really remarkable. Its almost like she is the only one who can see herself in the mirror or something. She is working her face like a puppet. It’s mesmerising.
Welcome back, dude. Good the see you on the site.
But I gotta ask, you came back for this?

well, i had to start somewhere.
essentially:
- BLF changed and i was too lazy to adapt.
- we could not travel for ~3 years, so we have been gone. Iceland was our latest trip.
- lots of funerals. all expected. no tragedy. two weddings. one WAS a tragedy in my opinion.
of course, there is more, but that might illuminate why posting in any forum was not a priority.

S01 is insane. Skip the rest, garbage.
Yeah, it took me a couple of months before I got my account transferred to the new BLF.
And, don’t worry, it’s totally a secret about the wedding. I won’t tell anyone.
