What blade did you EDC today?

Yeah but this shouldn’t even be a question. The sad existence of unscrupulous companies stamping anything from D2 to M390 on a piece of 3Cr, 4Cr, 5Cr, etc… is very well-confirmed. We sometimes see it done with 8Cr13Mov via rebranding distributors but even that would be wishful thinking under ten bucks.

That’s not even considering heat treatment. There are lots of knives that cost 10-20 times the cost of this one wherein they actually use Popular Super Steel X but without a good heat treatment or at a target hardness that doesn’t optimize performance or take advantage of the properties that make the idea of the steel attractive in the first place.

I have no use for a lighter, but that one looks sick

Modded Civivi Elementum tanto. This is my favorite Civivi. I just love the tanto blade.

Thanks!

This might not be the place for a deal spot but I’m sick today and not really carrying anything. For those who remember Kizer’s short-lived Tangram budget brand in Acuto 440 (made by the people who later broke away to form Kansept), those were some of the best bang for the buck on budget knives. It looks like Mojave Outdoors has back stock of this one. I just ordered one.

Nice looking blade … snagged … thanks … :beers:

Swiss Army Recruit again today, with something I now see I should have done a long time ago: a suspension clip.

84mm SAK’s carry pretty easily in geneal, but at 1.7 oz, this one becomes almost unnoticeable this way.

As you can see, it does get slightly in the way when using tools on that end of the knife, but is pretty manageable.

Most valuable tool used today: toothpick! I had to press a recessed release tab for an electrical enclosure latch, and it normally requires a very small screwdriver, which I didn’t have handy.

A more comprehensive gear dump for y’all. Note that the cigar is not part of my carry, and I only have a cigar rest if I’m planning on using it. (That’s exactly what happened after the picture.)

Clockwise from there: Draplin Field Notes, Pentel Philography with 0.7mm Energel needle tip, a modified TwoSun pry tool and bottle opener, a nice pen light from ReyLight, a David Mary custom knife, Bertucci DX3 with Comfort Canvas band, Swiss Tool XC, S30V Dragonfly with Flytanium scales, Ruger LCR 327 with 85-grain HydraShoks, and a titanium-shelled Thunderbird insert.

Probably not the best place for it - but I’m curious how you like the .327 FedMag… Any trouble sourcing it?

I’m tempted to grab the Taurus equivalent since it’s rather inexpensive for a revolver with decent punch - plus it can shoot 4 other rounds when practicing or plinking.

2 Thanks

I love .327 Federal. Sure, you can use a bunch of the shorter .32 caliber cartridges in it too but .327 Federal itself is a very capable round. Years back, I got together with some people, and shot the LCR 327 with the 85-grain HydraShoks and the LCR 38 with various +p rounds. Felt recoil between them was virtually indistinguishable. Sure, it was noticeably louder. The results on water jugs, old canned goods, and overripe fruit were dramatic.

The point is that with that kind of load, the little LCR remains easy to shoot well while picking up in effectiveness and gaining an extra round. (Of course, the cushy tamer grips on the LCR are a big help in any chambering.) It’s just sort of perfect for what it is, largely the last big advance in EDC revolver technology.

The heavier or hotter loads in .327 become a little unpleasant in the LCR but nowhere near as bad as .357 magnum. Those heavier and hotter loads are great in the SP101 or GP100.

As far as sourcing, it’s not too bad. They are more expensive than 9mm or .38 special but I sometimes find it on the shelves when 9mm or .38 special runs out. (That’s also where .32 H&R Magnum or even .32 S&W Long can come in handy too.)

… and a modified Z-82 in pocket today.

Yeah - that’s all tracks with what I’ve seen & heard… It’s an easier shooting round than it’s big brother with a lot of accessibility with those lighter rounds.

I very much enjoy .357, but this .327 appears to be no slouch as a defensive round while, as you said, offering that extra round.

I’ve spent about the last year thinking it would be easy to go shoot the cheaper stuff, and I don’t mind paying a bit more for the FedMag for defense as long as I can get it…

I appreciate the info - you’re not helping me save money, but that’s A-Ok! Lol!
