what can i salvage

im about to throw away a shitty random brand amazon zoomie light, at first i thought i could put it in my car and use it as a back up, and i wouldnt care if i lost it, but after trying it out, i dont even wanna use it as a back up, its so bad…

so im just wondering, is there anything i can salvage besides the carry clip?

The battery ? :stuck_out_tongue: But in all seriousness maybe the focusing lens for a future project if that is a route you take for building/modding.

Lanyard

oh ya battery was the first thing i took, even tho its not very good, rated 2200, measured 1800, but whatever. i dont think im going down the modding route, i feel like thats an even deeper rabbit hole than just collecting lights

unfortunately it didnt come with one

Dunno what kinda light, so can’t even guess.

its a sc31 pro style light

i took out the led, can we identify what it is from this sorry for the horrible resolution, my phone can only zoom in so much lol

To me ? it looks like a Latticebright a GXB20 possibly ?

well, i thought i might as well give it a try since im gonna throw it away anyway…and i failed miserably :person_facepalming:

behold, my first de-dome job

yes, i literally took an exacto knife, cut it open (it felt like rubber or silicone), and slowly chipped it away so that nothing is blocking the led anymore, thats why u still see some remainings around it…but somewhere along the way, i must’ve broken the LED, cuz it doesnt light up anymore LOL, i know its the LED cuz i didnt touch the driver pcb part, and when i click the switch, the green lights up for 3 clicks (high, low, strobe), then shuts off. so the software is still working

not that it matters, but is the LED very vulnerable and fragile? i dont THINK i touched it with the knife, but i definitely touched it with my finger tip, would that break the LED?

Not the LED, but the bond wires. Thinner than a hair. Breathe on them wrong, and they break.

oh wtf….so since i pretty much rough handled the led with my finger tip, i probably broke all of those…

No worries, we can rebuild led from the ground up.

really? thinner than hair bond wires??

i dont have spare LEDs lol

lolol…u know i have SOME self control!

its more about time, less about budget lol…

of course it is, cuz i cant do it on a computer, i have to physically sit at my “work station” and do some soldering and shit…but on here, i can just multi task while working, thats the beauty of multi monitors.
