I get mine at Walmart, where I buy most of my food.

Living in the corn belt, working corn fields since I was a kid, and currently working in the agriculture industry (mostly corn and soybeans)… we’ve got corn everywhere including popcorn. I get mine from a farm just a few miles down the road (along with some killer sweet corn). It’s amazing how much better it tastes being farm fresh. It pops a lot better too. We usually use a Whirly Pop on the stove with minimal oil.

As far as toppings go, we love it all sorts of ways: lightly salted, kettle, kettle + cinnamon, creole seasoning, garlic salt, caramel (usually for holiday gifts), tossed in white chocolate, chili powder + cayenne pepper… I think I might have to go make some right now!

Brewers yeast, gives a nice tang

@FabienG:

You don't know much about food, do ya?

Walmart has just as much healthy foods as any other grocery store.

And there's nothing wrong with corn or soybeans.

...

People, if you want to criticize what other people eat, and really, you shouldn't, at least get your facts straight first.

(Otherwise you sound like a blathering idiot.)

Preach it, RC. And even if people don’t want to eat corn or soybean products, livestock still needs food. Unless you guys don’t eat meat either. I’m not sure what some of you do eat. Crops are bad, meat is bad…?

Ok… I’m bowing out of this conversation. I honestly don’t want it to become offensive.

Wait, since when are soybeans bad?

It’s the complete opposite. It’s one of the greatest aliments ever!

I mean, without it, you wouldn’t have tofu, soybeans of course, the Beyond Burger/Impossible Burger, TVP, and many more.

It has the highest protein density of any legume, and has a lot of calcium and other useful nutrients.

There’s a good reason it’s so good.

Legumes in general are the best.

I generally don’t eat popcorn ’cause I hate when the shell-shards get wedged between my teeth, or worse, between teeth and gums. Like little razor-blades…

Also hate typische oversalted popcorn, chips, etc.

But when I do have some, I like the mild flavor of kettle-corn or white-cheddar. Pir8’s Buttocks makes a good one.

Oh, crackerjack-type corn (“caramel corn”?) is yummy, too.

Fwiw, plain air-popped corn is quite good for you. It’s like little scrub-brushes for the small intestine. Cleans you right out…

And sorry, but salted caramel is an abomination unto the LORD.

What sicko came up with that? :confounded:

High levels of phytoœstrogen, mimics the real deal. Can promote breast cancer in susceptible women and can grow you some man-boobs if you overload on ’em.

Soy, tofu, edamame, soymilk, etc., are included.

Has been shown not to actually matter all that much the real world.

It’s not a problem at all. And besides, if you worry about it, then people should worry even more about milk based products containing large amounts of estrogen.

Back on topic though: I just mix olive oil and salt on my pop corn, along with some red chili pepper. Makes it super nice.

Oh, I’ve said that forever, “growth hormones” and all.

When I was in grammar-school, all the teen girls had the physique of teen boys.

Today???

Ain’t saying any more…

If that happens, a little scrotox will tighten ’em back up.

I usually see my doctor twice a year, for medication refills.

I rarely get sick.

I am not weak.

Do some research before you post, for a change.

By the way, it's not okay to question someone's health because they eat popcorn or shop at Walmart.

Also, it's not cool to criticize what other people eat, especially if you have no understanding of basic nutrition.

And what's this?

You can dish out insults, but you cannot take them.

How surprising!

Quit trolling this thread, obvious troll.

Everyone, the title of this thread is:

"What do you season your popcorn with?"

It's not:

"Give your ill-informed opinion on nutrition."

To do so is rude, frankly.

Once again, your assessment of me is totally wrong.

Where do you get off making all of these assumptions about me and my health?

You're got a screw loose if you think that is okay on BLF.

I'm not going to respond to any more of your obvious trolling.

You have been reported to Mr. Admin.

I always liked that yellow puffed-corn cereal… “Sugar Pops”, or is that the cereal with the annoying bear that always tried acting “cool”? I always wanted to punch him in the face.

Mmmmm, kettle-corn without the shells… THAT I could go for.

Maybe you're thinking of Pops.

I like it, though I prefer whole grains.

There is zero evidence that soya beans cause breast growth. That doesn’t stop people making claims.

Soya beans are healthy, high in protein and fibre, low in fat. Asians reducing soya intake? I doubt that. Tofu (bean curd) is very popular in the East, the Japanese love soya beans. Soya bean oil is healthy, being low in saturated fats.

Corn is okay in moderation, as are most foods, but America grows a lot to make corn syrup, which is a very dangerous substance. It is used to make cheap foods appealing, and contributes to obesity and diabetes.

Raccoon, no need to be mean. My apologies if I bothered you with this. I’m always happy to learn from wiser people, so if you could place the picture of ingredients of your favourite seasoning and reveal how healthy it is, I’d appreciate it greatly.
Right, corn itself is healthy. Also corn seed soaked in plant oil is not that unhealthy (judging good and bad). But the topic is about seasoned popcorn which is… please teach me (’cause I know so little about it) how healthy is salted popcorn, and how healthy is seasoned popcorn.
Still - best wishes for you, Raccoon. Respect.
