I came across a crank light in a dollar store and thought that it looked pretty close to easily fit 20mm TIRs from IOS, so I did. I was originally thinking to put a tiny lipo in it and one of those usb charging circuts, but none of the lipo’s i have are small enough, so I just wired the crank to 2 xml t6 3c’s that were laying around. I would estimate that it puts out less then 100 lumens, but without any batteries its not bad. it also makes taking beam shots nearly imposible

Looks cool, but the light will probably fail pretty fast - plastic innards, right?
Most definitely, but i’ve been playing with it for the last hour, and havnt noticed any degridation, nor has it started to fall apart.
Might not run a cree, but you could definitely throw in some of those 14,000 MCD in there and see how it does http://www.fasttech.com/products/1609/10001035/1089204
Also those little button super capacitors are nice to have too
Actually its already got 2 xmls in it. I will post more pics from the build later, I will definitely have to get a couple of those super caps, i think they will definitely help even out the brightness between cranks
Might be better off pushing some XP-E's or something...
Better yet some of those surface mount LED's, they don't pull alot of power and make a decent amount of light
Still a cool little project!
It needs the bigger and highest capacity caps to reach a discharge current (300mA-1A) that is regular in 'flashlight country'.
Updated pics, and yeah, it probably would be better off with nichias, or something less over the top as an xml. but its what i had laying around, So thats what it got.
