What is your favorite compromise LED bulb for around the house.

I’m looking for a sweet spot LED bulb to replace the current Frankenstein assortment of bulbs I have around the house.

Warm color, reasonable CRI and tint, low cost and easily available.

What has worked for you?

Thanks,

Somebody has to have a suggestion for a decent go to bulb for noncritical areas.

Ikea Ryet

I have them all over my house, cheap, good color, quality seems to be ok.

No compromise for me, most bulbs in house are GU10 spots and I changed them all for Philips ExpertColor (a mix of 2700K and 3000K). They are 95+ CRI, spot on the BBL and are even not that expensive.

There are nice IKEA bulbs too but the electronics tend to fail over time more often than other brands.

Thanx for the tip Jos, definitely need to buy some ExpertColor lights.
Did not even know that its a mix of 2700-3000 K with a spot on BBL for a good price.

The power of the BLF spirit, i learned something new today

What I tried to say is that I have some 2700K bulbs and some 3000K bulbs.
Try 123led.nl, search term “Expertcolor” for a good selection and price, there are several outputs, colour tempetatures and beam angles.

Do the LED light bulbs from Dollar Tree fit your requirements?

They're warm white, only cost a dollar, and they're what I buy.

Waveform Lighting. Pretty much any bulb made by them is awesome.

Hyperikon are cheap and 90+ CRI, with multiple color temperature choices.

The first box I bought from them has an occasional brief flicker on 2 or 3 of the 4. I think this might have been a bad batch, as they generally seem to get good reviews. It hasn’t been bad enough to inspire me to even as about a warranty claim, so I plan to give them another chance next time I need more bulbs, except I’m going to step up to Waveform or Soraa in a couple locations like the kitchen and bathroom.

OK, great, this is the advice I was expecting from BLF. Probably my fault for initially submitting late night.

Ikea Ryet, Philips ExpertColor, Waveform, Hyperikon.

And the next time I’m at the dollar store I will grab a bulb for comparison on recommendation from “raccoon city”

Thanks, this will help get me started.

I’ve gone with Satco for my spot bulbs. Commercial grade, 80 CRI (“good enough” for around the house), good warranty.
Most of the rest are “Duracell” branded from Batteries Plus, because I could stack their sales with a local utility’s instant-rebate incentives to get almost all my bulbs at around $1 each with 5 year in-store warranty. They used to have amazing bulbs with 25,000 hour ratings and 80+ CRI, but lately they’ve been trying to compete on price more and the runtime ratings have been getting slashed.

So far I’m leaning towards the Hyperikon 2700 high cri dimmable or the Cree 2700 high cri dimmable.

The Hyperikon has been reviewed and commented on a few times in BLF with good results.

I also just found this relatively detailed recent “Wirecutter” review of LED bulbs that recomends the Cree bulb.

Considering the price point ($2.50-$3.00) for each I will probably order a few of both and compare.

Same. They are rated 90 cri too. Only thing is they have detectable PMW and if I use hot air gun it becomes really noticeable.

My family is lucky.

None of us has ever detected PWM.

I wonder if it's hereditary...

I just bought a few of the cheap (AU$1.50) Ikea Ryet B22 bulbs (470lm 2700k) based off the above advice, and the tint is absolutely terrible. I can only describe it as “retro puke yellow”. Sadly the more expensive 90CRI Ikea Ledare bulbs are not available in B22 connectors, which are still common in Australia.
