I have always wanted a Beagle but they are just too damn loud for the suburbs lol.
Thanks, is my previous one. Had one before that - sadly they are preconditioned to cancer, and almost all rotties go that way.
My most recent one is half Spanish, the breeders were very careful to widen the bloodline .
My German Shepard had bad hips, a result of breeding. Pure breeds have inbreeding problems mutts don’t. Hip Dysplasia (HD)
Outline: As a result of selection of particular features during the breeding of German Shepherd dogs, they are commonly affected with a hip disease characterised by excessive laxity in the joint (the ball moves too much within its socket) or excessive shallowness of the hip socket joint
English Bull dogs are another breed with health issues due to selective breeding. Old English Bull Dogs were suppose to correct that. These are just a few issues I know of with pure breed animals.
Go to the pound and rescue a mutt.
Sorry about your thread RC. I didn’t read your entire post first but it is what it is.
I like the English Staffordshire bullterrier and American Staffordshire Terrier. (and actually American Pitbull Terrier as well, but they were banned for many years in the Netherlands)
My parents used to have an English .. when I was born. Then when it died, they bought the next, and when it died, the next, and when it died, my parents received one from my sister, since she wasn't home often.
So 4 in a row. (I didn't live at home anymore when they had their 4th one)
just love the breed..
Not the picture of our dog..
No problem.
You expressed yourself without being rude/offensive, and I know many people do believe in getting mutts.
(I see no point in regurgitating what I have already posted about what I think on the matter.)
Ok, here’s our latest Rottie taken just now. If she wasn’t so nervous i believe she would have had a chance at winning Crufts (if I still did showing) she is about a perfect example as you’d get head shape, eye and marking wise.
She has a beautiful ridged muzzle, something my other 2 didn’t…oh and a tail! Obviously this has dimmed slightly with age.
!!
How were your Shepard’s hips? We had to put ours down. It was sad. To this day my wife won’t get another dog because they die young.

He was a stray, and he was a German Shepherd mix.
I always thought he was part Chow because that's what he looks like, but that's just a guess.
He never had hip dysplasia, and he got to be old enough to get lots of white hair.
He was killed by our neighbor's pit bull, which got in our yard and fatally wounded him.
Ever since, I do not trust pit bulls, nor their owners.
Pit bulls are bred and trained to kill other dogs, and they frequently kill humans, too.
I know that some pit bulls are friendly, but with their history of violence, and my family's history with them, I try to stay away from them.
I know a lot of people love their pit bulls, but if you look up dog attack statistics, pit bulls lead every category, and they can turn their owners as well.
(No offense to any pit bull owners out there.)
By the way, I don't want to be around dangerous animals of any type.

We had a Belgian Shepherd with hip dysplasia, too. Was recommended as a puppy to “put him down” just in case. “Just in case”?!? Nope. We had him for something like 7yrs. Sure, you could hear his hips crack and pop when he’d walk sometimes, but he didn’t show that he was in pain.

According to wikipedia, there are four breeds that are considered Belgian Shepherds.
Do you know which one you had?
Sad story. I wont disagree with you at all, but I won’t agree either.
We have all heard it a thousand times, and there ARE exceptions - but for the most part, good owner = good dog.
Bad owner, bad dog. It amplifies too - VERY bad owner, VERY bad dog. Very good owner, Very good dog.
It’s not even just that, even a bad dog can be trained to be obedient, and so not be bad (just like a human) but if a bad dog is left uncontrolled/is uncontrollable that is when things like you had happen.
My dog isn’t keen on other dogs, she’s never gone to bite, just growls - but that all stemmed from being a tiny bit nervous and some idiot with a great dane letting it off the lead with no control whatsoever.
It terrified my 6 month old puppy so much for about 20 minutes around a large field, I couldn’t catch her - she was screaming running through brambles and thorn bushes to escape, silly cow owner was calling it and shouting, it took no notice at all, was about 4 ft high and 15 stone.
I was nearly bad owner afterwards, if it had been a guy he would have had a slap.
Currently have a couple French Bulldogs, but my favorite is the Great Dane.
Before the Frenchies, we had 2 and they were so sweet. The female lived to be 9 and the male was 8. They were absolutely stunning and people took photos every time we took them out. It devastated us when we had to put them down. It hurt so bad that we didn’t have dogs for years as we weren’t ready for that kind of pain again.
The Frenchies are characters and hilarious. Our female is almost like a cat and doesn’t really care to be petted, but the male is a very sweet boy and loves licking people. Still, one day I will have another Dane, but it will be many years from now…

Unno, looked most like the T-one. Gray’n’black, though.
Kinda like this?

Pit bulls are <and were originally purposely> bred <for one thing only> and trained to kill other dogs, and they frequently kill humans, too.
I know that some pit bulls are friendly, but with their history of violence, and my family's history with them, I try to stay away from them.

I am struggling real hard to stop right here, right now, after reading and quoting a rare glimpse of The Obvious Truth. I am struggling with all my might and all my soul to not post the words "The Obvious Truth" in italic, bold, red, underlined, all caps, huge font. I struggle with all my mind and all my heart to emphasize the quoted content with merely one line of mere bold.
I have spent a few years doing scholarly research presented by people who represent both sides of the situation. I hereby promise to never again post any similar content on this issue ever again in this forum. I mean it. I am allotting myself only one time, and one time only, and this is The End of that, from me, here.
Of all the dogs I’ve had over the years my favorites. The two lab/German shepherd mixes, they were the best of both breeds.
Labrador/German Shepherd sounds like a good mix to me!

Lots hairier, though. Dog in the pic looks almost shaved.
Luna, my adopted Yorkshire Terrier. She literally changed my life
Catahoula, had one growing up and would love to get another one day.
