What language would you like to be fluent in, and why?

That would be Spanish. Loaded with papal letters, thousands of members of the Spanish impovered nobility set sail for unknown destinations in the hope to make a (new) fortune. Their behaviour was quided by the notion that the end justifies the means. They were so thorough that whole (agricultural) countries returned to wasteland. The Conquistadores litterally changed the climate of the world!
Because they were everywhere (hoping to get rich) Spanish is spoken all over the world.

Chinese isn’t my favorite. There seem to be more diverse Chinese languages than Romance languages. Like Mandarin, including Standard Chinese, Pekinese, Sichuanese, and the Dungan language in Central Asia. Wu, including Shanghainese, Suzhounese, and Wenzhounese. Gan, Xiang, Min, including Fuzhounese, Hokkien, Hainanese, Taiwanese and Teochew. Hakka and Yue, including Cantonese and Taishanese. Chances are that your attempts to communicate get a deaf ear with the explanation that your Chinese is not their Chinese

It’s awsome that you know a lot of Chinese local languages. But actually, for foreigner, there’s only one language to learn, Mandarin, and will be enough to communicate with other local languages speaker, cause nearly all the chinese could speak and understand Mandarin.

As a matter of fact, not every chinese could understand all the chinese local languages, for example, I could only understand Cantonese, Hakka, and Mandarin.

The only human language I am fluent in is Hakka, and then Mandarin, Cantonese.

I learned English, but not that good enough.

And I learned Japanese, and definitely gotta learn more more harder…

I like watching Japanese’s animes, and shopping on Japan is really a exciting thing…

I grew up with English, Swiss-German, German and some Dutch. Currently learning Swedish and Spanish and would like to include French and something more exotic later. Japanese is tricky, so is Mandarin. But I already speak/understand another Asian language, so maybe Russian?

Open for ideas.

Which language would you like to know?

Welsh because I live in Wales. About 3/4 of my neighbors speak Welsh at home. I dida 6 month course in 2009 and can mange a few simple phrases.

I’m keen on wanting to learn french cause why not, I’m also an odd duck as I became fluent in speaking Chinese:Cantonese, Mandarin(enough to get by), Japanese though cant read kanji in either language.

Python. Because I would like to develope a machine vision program based on the raspberry pi microcontroller. There’s money to be made there if someone has the time and knowledge, machine vision cameras are way overpriced.

I would definitely learn Spanish, and get more advanced level than I have it today. I had two disciplines in university, related to linguist sphere of study, French and Spanish, but I think that even French is much easier than Spanish.

Both are quite related. Start studying one of them, and the next one won’t be as tough as you thought.

I have been living in Palma de Mallorca for a year and I still do not understand the Majorcan dialect, I would prefer that they speak English.xD

I learned basic french in high school but aint had any use for it and had forgotten most of it. I ended up learning spanish working construction because 90% of the sheet rockers and painters around here speak it. I can speak enough to talk to them but can’t read or write a lick of it.

I’d like to learn more Scottish Gaelic because that’s my ancestry. I’d also like to learn Mandarin or Japanese.
