A good few years back on here. There was a group buy of some UniqueFire UF-1504 hosts.
It’s basically giant zoomy with an aspheric lens, that runs on 1 x 26650
The host is actually ugly to hold. But rare with its large glass aspheric optic.
I built mine as a dedicated thrower using a direct driven de-domed XP-G2 on a Noctigon board.
The tint is great on it and it does throw. But I’ve always felt it has under performed. For some reason, I only see 1.9-2.0 amps at the tailcap. The springs are braided and I’m using a suitable gauge wire to the LED (and on my DMM). I posted about it at the time and the consensus was the de-domed LED being the limiting factor. As I have other XP-G2’s running on Qlite drivers that will see just over 3 amps at the tailcap with the same DMM. A direct driven one should have been much higher.
So I’m thinking about rebuilding this light, as I haven’t used it as much as I thought I would.
The XP-G2 beam is also quite narrow, as to be expected really.
But I’m curious to know what peoples thoughts are on what LED you’d go for today? Either direct driven or with a driver. But still running on 1 x 26650.
I’m not sure what size the driver board would be, think it’s 17mm by eyeballing it.
