Hey guys i have little bit of property and i got robbed the other night down by my garage that's about 250-300ft away and im looking to get a security camera down there but i do not have wifi there, can anyone recommend me something decent that i can hook up 2 cameras with a dvr recording with night vision ?
a pitbull is a pretty good security system
A carefully placed Claymore or two should suffice
But seriously, I’d look to make the garage more secure and fit something that makes plenty of noise if they do get in, the alarm noise especially if you put an additional siren inside the garage normally scares them off, not just the fact that the noise in a small building becomes disorientating if you get a 200 decibel siren fitted, but also they don’t know who else has heard the noise and is on the way to investigate
Cameras are good, but only after other measures, a great many people have watched their stuff being stolen on their cctv system, the trouble is its often when they wake up in the morning and are watching what went on and was stolen when they were fast asleep during the night.
Up to that point they were under the false impression that their cctv camera’s would magically protect their property and no one would dare break in
With suitable signage a few Australian snakes could be a deterrent.
Maybe a few of our spiders for backup?
Camera’s aren’t much of a deterrent.
I’d start with motion sensing lights outside the garage, you’ll want them to cover all sides of the building. You can also add motion sensing switches to the interior lights.
Follow that with an motion sensing alarm as dw911 mentioned, with audible warnings both in the garage and outside that can be heard from your house.
Cameras would be the last thing I’d install but the lights and alarm may well address the problem.
The dirt bags that do this rely on stealth, an isolated building in the dark is a prime target.
thanks i never thought of a siren
Another option, or in case the thief’s are deaf ( if they aren’t a 200 decibel siren will soon make them that way)
J)
Is to install a simple high volume smoke generator that is triggered by someone unauthorised entering your garage, it’s completely harmless to the thief’s or your property, but rapidly fills the building with smoke, they can’t steal what they can’t see and as it would
be a complete shock to them, they are lighty to leave very fast thinking the building is on fire
I rigged something similar on a RV once, very affective as often you need to leave an RV at a deserted isolated site unguarded, and much cheaper than a pit bull, plus it doesn’t eat your belongings while waiting for thief’s to munch on
Perhaps a compromise?
A two tier alarm system. First a deterrent and then a siren.
An outside motion detector that plays a sound when something move outside. A hysterical dog barking and perhaps sometimes bounce against something. Or more "subtle" the sound of a pump shotgun chambering a shell, followed by the sound of breathing...
Would be fun to have a good soundsystem like that. But too bad if someone steals it.
And an inside motion detector that turns on lights and starts a siren.
SimpliSafe might be an option.
You could do this 2 different ways.
- Put a base station in your house and one or more sensors/sirens in the garage. The lithium batteries are good in cold weather.
2. Put the base station and sensors/siren in the garage, if the seperation distance is too great. Assuming you have electricity out there (for the base station).
Monitoring is optional, in which case they call you if a sensor trips. And no, I’m not a huckster for Simplisafe.
man u guys got me thinking on this, good ideas
OP, I am very sorry to hear you got knocked off. My small suggestion would be to invest in a safe (if the items are small but valuable), I recommend sturdy safes.
If it’s more like lawn mowers and stuff, the noise makers and lights might be best.
Only call the law if needed for an insurance claim.
Ooooh straight away with the .338!
are you allowed to have this item in NZ? One of the world’s best humans, Sibel Edmonds, once suggested that New Zealand might be the last place on earth you can exist peacefully.
clear legos.
Your welcome. Next problem please.
This. Except, they'll probably wear shoes, maybe a lot of marbles?
The Simplisafe system is pretty good, easily expandable and monthly is cheap with police notification, text notification, emails. Yes I can confirm the siren is ear-screeching loud.
Since you live there you could do the motion sensor lights outside, with a motion detector alarm inside of the building, you could also buy a cheap game camera to get a shot of whoever is approaching your building, or checking it out, as long as you can conceal it from being stolen.
i was reading some reviews looks nice and something i was looking for before i made this thread
Do you mean to say, lay clear legos on the ground? Certainly not build a wall with them.
I mean obviously you have a pair of redwings that walk over legos… Even with marbles, you can drag your feet/shuffle them as to kick the marbles and not step on them.
I fail to see the obvious it seems…
Just for the fun:
How about a few 9/12/15xXML flashlights in strobe mode, which will be triggered electronically by a motion sensor?
but that would only help at night.. not daytime.
