What Size Pliers for S2+?

Hi. I’ve never modded a flashlight before. I just got a Convoy S2+ with a smooth reflector. I want to either change to an orange peel reflector or put in some kind of diffusing lens. From what I can tell, I need to screw the brass bit with the circuits up and out of the head to get to it. Apparently, people use “snap ring pliers” to turn it via the little holes. Here are the cheapest ones I could find on Amazon. Will these work? What is the right size?

Thanks in advance!

Hmm now there is a question…
I have a very similar set, they fit 2 lights (with big holes in retaining ring)
Most light have much smaller ones and it is only useable with these as kinda internal pliers (not using holes - won’t fit)
I would recommend a camera lens spanner - a bit dearer but will fit multiple lights. I haven’t got one, yet, but it’s my next purchase.
LINK on EBAY UK (from China)

+1 Go for a camera lens spanner. A kit with adjustable bridge and multiple tips can be had for less than 15 bucks.

I used a nail. I wouldn’t buy a tool for one time use unless necessary.

Good point, though it’s the kind of tool that has multiple uses and if you get it cheap enough it’s a handy thing to have in a toolbox for £8. As the previous poster said you can get ones with various ends/shapes which is even better.
This is a little more expensive at £11.59 but has more options. You can also more easily ‘angle’ the legs to fit in tighter spaces. LINK

True, but at the cost of another S2+. For me, that wouldn’t be worth it. I prefer to buy it when I really need it, afterwards it can be a nice addition to my toolbox. If, let’s say, I was working on a €250 light. Then I might buy such a tool.

Good point. I use two nails. That way the rotating force stays in the center. And not in the wall/tube.

The one OP linked was the exact one I use and works with every single 14500 or 18650 sized lights.
Unless it’s a soda can light, I wouldn’t bother with anything more than circlip pliers

No, it doesn’t fit every single light.
What an odd statement?!? do you own every single 18650 and 18350 in existence and have tried? I can give you 4 examples right here they don’t fit! :person_facepalming:

Those should work just fine Chronovore. Personally I use needle nose pliers that I got for $2 from Harbor Freight and filed down the ends specifically for flashlights.

You should unscrew the pill using the outside notches, not the holes in the retainer ring. Good luck with your mod!

Thanks! I’m really excited. The low cost and high quality of Convoy’s S2+ was the perfect invitation to try my first flashlight modification. I just ordered the 45-degree diffusing lens to try out as well.

The size of these instruments depends only on their owner, not not the quality of the quantity of work. It is important for you to be comfortable to work, so it needs to be comfortable to hold in the hands and also to cut the branches. I have tried different tree trimming tools before finding that one that perfectly suits me. I bought them from Haus and Garten and I using them already for one year. I like that they are made from durable materials and they will last a long period, and also it has different sizes, so everyone will find its instrument.

Mostly I just use two small nails crossed over  works fine
