For a couple years I browsed LED forums, bought this or that, a batch of SK68 clones, then a few months ago I bought an Olight i3s, put a nice 10440 in it and stopped looking. Its in my pocket all the time, makes light when I need it, about once a week the battery comes out for a 20 min charge.
Something else eventually will tempt me, I was real close to buying a Zebralight SC52, but for now, the hunt is over.
Anybody else find a light that ended the hunt for at least a few months?
It’s hard to say when exactly, but the Tank007 E09 and Convoy S5 together cover my needs. Being curious about modding and buying a rework station opened up more possibilities for me. The hunt has changed from looking at stock lights to looking at custom drivers, thinking about my favourite tints, this sort of thing.
I doubt if there is any flashlight will stop me from being a flashlight hunter anymore. I really hope there will be one.
+1
I am a budget minded guy and I never bought branded lights like Fenix, Olight and Jetbeam, but at the same time I am too greedy to want flashlights which have crazy output, crazy throw, good modes, tint… etc, and this is exactly what brings me into the modding exploration route.
I am personally covered when it comes to flashlights at the moment. I have goods EDCs (tank007), good daily use flashlight, headlamp and the occasional backup light/budget light.
I will now only buy something really mind blowing, mind blowing and on a budget or a budget flashlight
I have other hobbies and use for money at the moment
I’m totally fine with people collecting them as a hobby but more than collecting them but it needs to have some functionality for me. Ex car booth light which should be there when needed but is normally never used!
Not really, but the wife giving me the unholy stink eye one month looking at my paypal purchases and then walking out of the room without saying another word… cools me jet and made me appreciate and use some of the great lights I have already!
What stopped my hunt is when I discover that over the C8 size you get much bigger and heavier flashlight with relatively little more light for common use, the law of diminishing returns.
Same thing as efficiency/power ratio in LED, you use alot more current for smaller increase output.
I’ve pretty much stopped after getting the Convoy L4. Not because of it being the best light, but more because I felt I was getting too many lights just because I wanted them for some reason or other. I probably should have stopped after the Sunwayman D40A or the Nitecore EA4. They’re all I need. Everything else I own is more of a want. And I’ve ended buying at least 3 dozen lights since I joined this forum last year. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one on this forum who has bought more than they really needed (I do notice a few people on here selling off lights that are practically new).
I definitely will not be getting any more lights this year! I am glad I got my lights last year as the Canadian dollar was pretty good. Having a weak dollar is going to curb my spending habits this year!
When spring comes, theres no need in hunt for me since days are getting longer and most of the time is spent outdoors during daylight.
When autumn comes, come longer nights and thus, my flashaholism is being triggered once again :D!
Im rotating my hunting attention between multi AA lights, single AAA keychain lights, 18650 throwers, good 18650 batteries, good LSD AA’s and variety of chargers to get me through the winter :D!
For awhile I was enthused over 1xAAA lights and purchased a whole bunch. Then my interest died down. Then I became interested in 1xAA zoom flashlights and purchased a bunch of those. Then I started to mod my own flashlights, and so on. I also occasional purchase some of the name brand flashlights (Eagletac D25, Zebralight, Sunwayman, Jetbeam, Olight, etc.)
Currently, I’m into small sideswitch flashlights. Last night I updated my modded XTar wk42 with a newer 3.04 amp DrJones Lumodrv 105c driver. The mod is mostly complete. All that’s needed is to braid the tailcap spring.
Later this week I plan to gut my Sunwayman C20C and install a 3.04 amp 105c with Lumodrv and zener diode mod, and an MTG2.
After that, my interest will probably die down for awhile… until something else catches my eye or I decide to mod something.
However, even when I’m not actively buying or modding flashlights I’ll still browse the forums.
